Whats your favourite new song from Hairspray the movie????

Hi friends, im wondering which of the new songs for the movie do you prefer... for me, the song that smells OSCAR Nomination is "COME SO FAR (GOT SO FAR TO GO)"

I have to say my favorite new song is the reprise of "Big, Blonde, and Beautiful." To me it's the one that worked the best in the film. If I have to pick an actual full song, I'd pick "New Girl in Town."

I believe New Girl In Town is not eligible since it was not written specifically for the movie. I really like Come So Far.

Regarding the Oscars, I don't know if it's in their best interest to get multiple noms, or to push hard for one particular song.

My favorite has to be "Come So Far", but I find myself listening to all of the new songs on the soundtrack repeatedly.

I don't think "New Girl in Town" will be eligible, just like the stunning "Maybe This Time" wasn't eligible for CABARET. It was previously written, although I think the latter was a trunk song.

Don't forget about "Ladie's Choice"! Although the Oscars may stay away from anything Efron...

I believe Maybe This Time was written for Liza to perform before the film of Cabaret, thus it was not eligible.

I'm fond of Ladie's Choice.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Kind of OT, but is it true that the ommited "Mama I'm A Big Girl Now" because the screenwriter found it unfilmable?
I find that hard to believe. There are multiple ways they could've shot that scene. I have a sneaking suspiscion it's because Bynes and Snow weren't vocally efficient enough for it.

I believe it had something to do with the fact that the song moralizes Amber, and puts her on the same playing field as Tracy and Penny. They wanted her and Velma to be more movie villains...not moral qualities or whatnot.

I loved "Come So Far" and "Ladies' Choice" but my favorite was the Dynamites' version of "New Girl in Town."

I loved the Dynamites...period.

Wizard- on the CABARET DVD little documentary Kander or Ebb refers to it as a trunk song, making it uneligible. They had the melody already written. Fosse told them exactly what he wanted Sally to say at that moment. They say Fosse practically wrote some of the lyrics. They pulled out this melody from their "trunk" and added the lyrics, and there we have "Maybe This Time".

My favorite song is "LADIES' CHOICE", but my mom is a big fan of "COME SO FAR." I'm a sucker for that one too.

^^ Yeah, I agree. I think Come So Far is kinda cheesy as well. I love the songs in Hairspray because they're so tongue-in-cheek, and that one is a little too earnest and sappy. It's a nice sounding song, though.

And to answer the question previously asked: yes, "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now" was jettisoned for two reasons. One is that they felt the sequence on film would be too reminiscent of "The Telephone Hour" from Birdie. The other was that Shankman thought that by showing Tracy and Amber essentially "relating" to each other, however indirectly, would humanize Amber too much and make her less unlikeable.
