When Patti Was Mama (a parody)

...to the tune of "If Momma Was Married"

When Patti played Mama
the world couldn't wait
the new Broadway shows were ignored
Was Laura too old? Would they articulate?
So much speculation on every damn board
When Patti played Mama

When Patti played Mama
on opening night
the stood for her signature voice
While Leigh Ann played June with both
vigor and bite
It really was Herbie who made us rejoice
When Patti played Mama

Patti, with one glaring eye
can charm a whole crowd
and then terrify
Patti, with butter to fry
can belt it out loud
'bout blueberry pie

From Merman's supply
of power as big as a barge
to Bernadette's hustle
to Daly and Russell
was Angela really in charge?
or Midler? The Roses loom large!

When Patti played Mama, it put an end to all the
"Why does Arthur hate her?"
"Shouldn't Sondheim step in?"
"She was meant to be.
Doesn't someone see?
Dance out, straight Tulsa!
Miss ELECTRA!!

Patti, the cuts in the show
have caused some concern
That lamb has to go!
Patti, the lights are aglow
It's finally your turn
So on with the show!

How can you say no to strippers who shed all their clothes?
But Patti is Patti
so sayeth the catty
We're all far too chatty, I 'spose
Oh Patti!
Yes Patti!
Cause Patti!......
is now Mama Rose.

I think that's my favorite part.

It really is a spot-on parody. So many people forget to retain the proper beats or rhyme scheme when writing parody, but yours is pretty darn perfect. Again, well done!

That's wonderful!
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

re: When Patti Was Mama (a parody)

It's late over here and when i first read the title i thought it said "When Patti Was A Man".

But all jokes aside that was great.
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

re: When Patti Was Mama (a parody)

So witty! Well done.

Maybe I just sang through that instead of just reading it. Whatever.

LMAO. I've never had someone bump my thread before.

Well, it had fallen to the second page and I thought the afternoon people might have missed it, and it's too good to miss. :)
