When did you think Kelli O'Hara deserved to win?

While I normally abhor these threads that take away from the winner's performance, I will say that I believe her losing last year was a tragedy. I have already gone over my problem with the role of Carole King (Not Miss Muller's performance, which was wonderful, I just think the role is not well written and barely the lead) and Miss O'Hara's gorgeous voice on those operatic songs and her beautiful portrayal of Francesca seemed (to me) more deserving of a Tony.

However, what's done is done and I'm ready for tonight! I sincerely hope the Voters have gone for subtle nuances and love that cannot be recognized over a histrionic and manic showy role made of personal comedic ticks. But that's just me.

Except for those still living ladies Heather Headley and Christine Ebersole.

She she should have won for Piazza. 1 of the most beautiful performances I have ever seen. While I love Clark's performance , o'hara's is still imbedded in my mind.

Agree she should have won it for Bridges

Then again, Bridges should have been nominated for Musical and for Pasquale and it was not.

She has a way to go in the futility department.Susan Lucci was nominated in the teens (for an Emmy) before she won . She stayed home and won

Maybe Kellie needs to stay away one year.

I agree with what everyone is mostly saying. She should've one last year. It was one of the absolute best performances I've had the pleasure of seeing live.

I agree that I don't like to take anything anyway from the winners, but nevertheless here goes:

2014 for BRIDGES was the one time I think I can comfortably say that she should have won. I found Jessie Mueller to be good in Beautiful but I wasn't particularly wowed by her...and that isn't anything against her because I think she is wonderful and I have loved her in other things. I just think a nomination should have been her reward. O'Hara isn't what I normally think of when I think of when I think "Italian woman" but she pulled it off well enough and sounded stunning. "Almost Real" was probably one of my favorite vocal/acting performances of recent years.

The others are as follows:

2005: This is the other race where I go back and forth between her and Sara Ramirez. I don't care for Spamalot but what Ramirez did with that role was hilarious and she stole the show from the likes of Tim Curry, Hank Azaria, and David Hyde Pierce.

O'Hara was truly beautiful in Piazza and it was such a great breakthrough role for her....and she also sang some of the best stuff of her career so far in that show.

--

2006: I loved her in Pajama Game and was impressed by her vocal range, especially after seeing her in Piazza. But I actually supported LaChanze's win in this case.

2008: This one hurts, because this is one of those cases where I feel "If only it was another year". Patti LuPone was brilliant and deserved her Tony...but O'Hara made me care more about Nellie Forbush than I ever had before and had it not been for LuPone, she would have had my vote easily.

2012: This is the only time I considered her to be an also-ran. She was serviceable in the role, but I placed her last among the 5th.

I still haven't made it to The King and I but am going in early July to see her.

2005 and definitely 2014. And I also think she deserves to win tonight.

She should have won for The Bridges of Madison County. Kristin is going to win tonight.

People need to stop "feeling bad". It's about the performance not the actor's history.

Lucci attended the Emmys the year she won.

They have...twice already for the same role (see Gertrude Lawrence and Donna Murphy). I hope the voters don't just use shallowly used terms like "nuance" and "histrionic" and "manic" or fall for the whole paying her dues argument because as if being nominated 6 times and having steady work isn't a luxury and a privilege of its own (and choosing somebody for that reason has lead to less-than-ideal results), but recognize the actual level of skill shown and performance quality on stage, no matter who they vote for.

Im with Bridges of Madison County as well. I thought that role was heads and tails above anything else. Not to diminish what Jessie Mueller did, which was wonderful. But I think Francesca was the role of Kelli's life (thus far), and she pushed herself beyond anything we had seen her do previously.

I think she will probably be in second place again tonight, Im predicting Cheno. But I will be so happy if I'm wrong! Girl has definitely put in her dues. What a moment that would be if she indeed managed to win.

Was it a "love that cannot be recognized"? I'm probably not going to get to see the show again but I still feel like she was just not that into him. As a friend, sure, but I saw nothing romantic on her part. As for OTTC, I think the whole show is a little sloppy so a nomination has to be about the vocal difficulty and histrionics because there isn't much of a character that holds together... I'd say that about most of the characters in that show.

When did you think Kelli O'Hara deserved to win?

It might be ironic if she wins for this performance when she should have one for last years

Mueller was good but she was not the best last year. That title goes to O Hara hands down.

Despite the fact that she has not won yet, if you think about it, she's luckier than most of the women who have beat her for Tonys. She seems to be working on Broadway so consistently, year after year. I don't feel the need to feel bad for her at all.

When did you think Kelli O'Hara deserved to win?

You always feel bad for the loser especially one who has done it many times

The ultimate loser was depicted in the movie The Oscar

Didn't the NYT article say that Kelli is barely the favorite to win? I'm rooting for both girls, but I have a feeling that it's going to be Kristin.
