When do you think Phantom will close on b'way?- Page 2

I recently saw it and it was a full house! If people are still seeing it then I don't think it'll close anytime soon.

To comment on the post stating the show is tired and touristy...

In October 2005, NY Times revisted the show and said that it was more energetic and compelling, et cetera, than the young wipper-snapper shows. Because of the cast and the production's team, the show is not old or tired. As I said earlier, about 4 or 5 years ago, it was on its last legs, and then they revamped it and it's back to being fresh and exciting.

Cameron Mackintosh didnt have anythign to do with Sunset Blvd, but agree with the meaning of the message and reference to Phantoms popularity.

Phantom was my first broadway show and i think it was brilliant. This show is like a legend, and I think it will keep running for quite a while, but with lesmiz coming around the corner, it might lose some interest. I'll be devastated when it does close, though.

Call me a skeptic, but I do not totally believe that Les Miz will remain limited engagement. If it sells well (and I am certain it will), multiple extensions and an eventual open-ended run is not something outside the realm of possibility.

I give it between 5-10 years.

I highly doubt Les Mis will take much interest away from Phantom. They ran on Broadway together for 16 years, they'll both do fine.

I'd hate for ALW to have the top 2 shows for all time. How depressing.

Why? If his shows bring in the most people and inspire a lot of new theatre-goers . . . why is it depressing?

Frankly, as much as I do enjoy Phantom, I'd like a new show to go to the Majestic...used to the big shows closed in 3 years, 18+ is a little ridiculous...granted I'm still miffed that Chorus Line closed.

Whenever it closes, it will probably come back five years later total revamped aka a BIGGER CHANDELIER and JET PACKS!!!

CHICAGO MUST CLOSE- IT IS THE WORST SHOW ON BROADWAY. I HATE IT. IT SHOULD BURN. FOREVER. IT SUX. NO1 LIKES IT. NO SET + HORRIBLE,, BLACK COSTUMES + RUNNING UP AND DOWN STAIRS = CHICAGO. I RATHER SEE ALL SHOOK UP THERE RATHER THAN CHICAGO!

I'm gonna say 10 years from now. I think ticket sales will have dropped by then. But I think as long as it continues to do good business, it's going to stay open.
