And I said, "What about Breakfast at Tiffany's?"
Dollypop said, "I think I remember that film,"
And if I recall, Jordan and Goldenboy both didn't like it,
And I said, "Well, that's good taste they've got."

In case any of you did not see this... Oh, the lengths to which producers will go to try and get a hit. Why not just try mounting a good production instead?

Instead of mounting a good production, the producers are attempting to urn their keep.

Meanwhile, others are laughing their ashes off.

Careful,

I just got a PM from Cheesy2, blah blah blahing their resume and telling me I wasn't a very nice person.

He's only succeeding in making an ash of himself.

I have to respond to Dolly's indication that my post somehow relegates professional theatre's existence to the depths of community theatre. I'd like to address this on two fronts-- first, community theatre is a volunteer love and passion supported enterprise. Sure, I can be just as catty as the next gay guy, but it isn't, in my opinion, a shortcoming to have your heart in something. To love it. To have passion for it. So while I know you meant that comment in a cold and unfeeling dismissal of the untouchables, I don't mind the comparison. Secondly, I didn't say we couldn't be critical of work. We certainly can be. This thread, however, is mean-spirited. It's not intellectually motivated, it's not artistically motivated, and it's not financially motivated. It's simply here just to be mean. That's the problem I have. And you are free to create as many threads like this as your fingers can birth; I just think we are all better than that.

As regards the intent of the OP... the title of the thread isn't "TIFFANY'S sux! I can't wait 'til it's gone... how long will it last?"

The thread can (and whether it should I leave to the beholder but in the case of this reader, at any rate, it was) be read as simple idle gossip about a production that appears to have less legs to stand on than typically indicates a healthy and long run. Discussing the practical matters of Broadway economics is often fascinating, and need not be considered "mean" simply to speculate as to the comings and goings of shows.

Save "mean" for when After Eight calls people who like things uncultured swine or somesuch. (i.e., unsupported, uncalled-for personal attacks. Or, you know, actual meanness.)

(I hope After Eight can appreciate being appropriated for the purpose of a demonstrative joke at my own expense. He/she/it is often able to support his/her/its criticisms.)

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

I'm seeing this show in about 2 weeks, and part of me hopes it doesn't close before then because I did want to see Emilia Clarke on stage, but if it really is dreadful, maybe it's better I didn't see it at all. I don't know.

...I just hope Audience Rewards will refund my points/money, if it comes to that :|

If you are lucky, the show will close. You would have more fun watching paint dry.

Closing notice posted yesterday. Final performance will be Sunday, April 21st. While I'm certain that while everyone worked very hard to bring this show together it was simply not a very good show. It might have been closer to the tone of the original novella but never quite developed characters that were interesting or that you cared about. And, the ridiculous inclusion of the unnecessary nude bathing scene was awkwardly placed and, at least at the performance I attended, was obviously embarrassing for Emilla Clarke as she worked very hard to keep her body covered while entering and exiting the tub. Show cost $4M to mount and will close at a near total loss.
