When will N2N recoup?
#1When will N2N recoup?
Posted: 10/6/09 at 12:10amI'm not really sure what the weekly nut is for the show, but for a show with a small cast/crew/pit, it seems like it is doing consistently well. Does anyone know if it has recouped, or is anywhere near doing so..?

Posted: 10/6/09 at 1:40pmIt's FAR too early for it to have recouped. I think it stands a good chance, but a lot depends on how the post-holiday time treats it.

Timmy -
Why do you want to know when it recoups?
It was reported in Variety that the show breaks even around $200K to $250K a week. It has run for 6 months (28 weeks including previews) so the operating costs would be in the $6 to 7 million range. To date it has grossed $10 million. It also cost upwards of $5 million to open. So it still has a way to go. The Booth is a very tough theatre for a commercial production because of its small size.

$200K seems REALLY low, can't imagine it's less than $250K.
And people always forget about how you need to adjust down revenues, because of the new gross/gross reporting (at least a 5% decrease in the gross), and about how there are royalty payments that are either a % of gross or % of net profit, that aren't included in the weekly operating costs.
Long story short, N2N is definitely doing well, appears to be in no danger of closing anytime soon - but if the initial investment was >$5mm, it is nowhere near recouping. Certainly not before the first of the year. Probably not for quite some time after that.

I saw the show last Thursday night. I have to confess I admired it more than actually being riveted by it. The performances were all first rate and Ripley was phenomenal. (Spencer was out but his u/s Michael Berry was more than fine.)
The crowd was so enthusiastic in their response it sounded as if we were in a theatre twice the size.
I have been thinking about the show a lot since it didn't live up to my expectations and I think the main reason is that it is loaded with incidents and tries to tell us how to feel instead of letting us arrive at those emotions naturally. I enjoyed seeing the show, but wasn't completely blown away and don't understand these people that line up regularly to see it over an over. (Felt the same about the musical SPRING AWAKENING.)

Posted: 10/7/09 at 3:49pmWell said frontrowcentre2, I felt the same way for both shows as well. I did enjoy the performances, as well as the music for both but was not left awed enough to want to see the show over and over again. Now, on the other hand, Hair, loved it and have returned twice.

Seeing shows multiple times on Broadway for me is not usually an option, as I get down once every few months and have to cover the latest shows.
If I were in the area and had the chance there are a few I would maybe go back for a 2nd viewing but even here in Toronto I don't generally do that. (I have seen JERSEY BOYS here 4 times due t cast changes and interviews I am doing with specific performers.)
Curiously with NEXT TO NORMAL, I have listened to the CD but it always seems to lose focus in the 2nd half, as the score starts getting repetitive. I thought perhaps seeing the show might change that opinion and instead it reinforced it.
