Can anyone tell me where Grease the musical takes place at?? I know it's at Rydell High school but what city? Wikipedia encyclopedia says its in chicago but i read other places it takes place in New Jersy which would make sense cause they have NJ accents or something close to it.

It was written most likely with Chicago in mind...however for whatever reason most people associate Greasers with Jersey...and the film was shot in California...
I always just assumed it was in Any Town, Any State, USA...

well what accent are using?? i'm in a production and our director said she wanted us to use them but i have no clue what accent there doing..lol sounds somewhere between a brooklyn and a NJ.

Your director doesn't know what kind of accents he/she wants? Besides, just because they all go to the same school doesn't mean all the kids have to sound the same. But if it is important your director should be making that decision and working with the whole cast to perfect the accents.

first off we haven't even had a practice yet. this is just something he said real quick during auditions..i was curious about it. 2nd off most of the cast memebers in the movie and on the OBC recording have a little accent to there voice. i'm not saying it's important to have them in the show..i was just simply curious to where they were from so i knew what accent they were talking in. maybe i'm just crazy.

The show was written about the high school experience in Chicago, specifically at Taft High School on the city's northwest side. That much was made perfectly clear in You're the One that I want.

sorry, but in the world of theatre, its called a rehearsal, not a practice... but since your a big fan of musicals, you already know that

are you kidding me??? i could care less if it's called practice or rehearsal. i just had a question and i think it's been answered. so i'm going to go back to not posting on here so i can avoide the rude drama queens such as yourself.

It was a joke or a sarcastic remark? might of been a joke to you i guess. either way it's not a big deal. it's all good.
Here comes the REAL bitch.
"You're" blowing a joke out of proportion, not "your."
It "might have" been a joke to you, not "might of."
Where the musical takes place, not where it takes place "at."
"Their" voice, not "there."

re: "everybody associates greasers with New Jersey"
I saw Grease at the Papermill in Millburn, NJ, and the only greasers I saw were on the stage. There aren't many greasers up here in NW Jersey either, but if you want to see them go to Garfield or Lodi, or better yet South Jersey, anywhere in the 609 area code.

609 includes Princeton and I can assure you no one here sounds like a Greaser or belongs on the Sopranos for that matter. South Jerseys debateable too...
Ooh, just to join the cattiness, it's "a lot" not "alot."

Here in North Jersey, we're anti-Grease. Well, there is that friend of mine that likes to go around with a leather jacket... but his name's Mike, not Danny. There's a difference.
The irony of this all is that I've been told on numberous occasions that my dad looks like John Travolta in his Grease years, and he's lived in NJ his entire life.
