I'm kinda excited for Wedding Singer, I'm a big Amy Spanger fan, so I'm hoping to catch her in this.
I too wish there was a lot less Jukebox and Movie musicals and more original ideas, but what can you do?
better movies than jukeboxes IMO
I've heard Steven Lynch was up for the Adam Sandler role in Wedding Singer. THAT is perfect casting

"MOVIE MUSCIALS ARE FOR MIDWESTERNERS WHO ARE ISOLATED AND CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT REAL THEATRE IS ABOUT."
Excuse you but I am NOT a midwesterner and I enjoy movie musicals just fine. Just because it's a musical based on a movie doesn't mean it's not original. It's taken a plot that's already written and writing an ORIGINAL score for it. The music is new. The staging is new. The dancing is new. Even some of the writing is new.
Do you have any idea how many musicals have been created that are based on an already existing work? Whether it be movies, novels, historical events...whatever. Most of these "original musicals" are musicals that have taken some form of a story that has already been written and creating a musical based off of it. Movie musicals are more prevalent because it's more noticable and the titles are easily recognizable. Does that make the material bad? NO!
RENT was based on LA BOHEME.
MISS SAIGON was based on MADAME BUTTERFLY.
CABARET was based on THE BERLIN STORIES.
CHICAGO was based on an already written play named CHICAGO.
WICKED was based on a novel of the same name.
AVENUE Q is a parody of children's television shows.
LES MISERABLES is based on a novel.
CATS is based on a book by T.S. Elliot.
INTO THE WOODS is a take on Grimm's Fairy Tales.
GYPSY is based on an autobiography.
LA CAGE AUX FOLLES is based on a movie.
The list continues. All of these are "original musicals" but they have been based off of an already established work. Does that make them un-original? I don't think so.
*applause for FOAnatic*
Thank you FOAnatic.
If I make one more double-post I'm gonna be really mad.
7 Sister Act.
The rights to SISTER ACT have only been optioned. There is no production team yet so, as of now, it's just a thought. Something that probably won't be happening for a while.

- I might die if Steven Lynch was cast! He's HILARIOUS!!!
I'm definetly excited about "Catch Me If You Can". It was a great film and is a magnificent concept for a musical! With Shaiman and Wittman onboard, this has success written all over it.
Although I love the film, I'm not too optimistic about "The Wedding Singer" musical. I hope I'm wrong.
I would definetly like to see "The Color Purple". I have a feeling this could be one of the most powerful new musicals to hit Broadway in a long time.

I heard about Stephen Lynch being in talks to be in The Wedding Singer. I'd love to see that. I think I'd even buy the cast album.

THE COLOUR PURPLE and THE FIRST WIVES CLUB.
If LEGALLY BLONDE will ever 'happen' I'd like to see Laura Bell Bundy as Elle.
I actually hope Laura is cast as Jane in TARZAN.
I enjoy entertaining my wish for Kate Reinders to be Elle Woods. I think she is just perfect for the role and needs to originate a role on Broadway that is worthy of her talents.
I'm excited for The Wedding Singer and The First Wives Club. They are two of my favorite movies, so I'm like dying.
heart.
