I think it will depend on what kinds of companies still exist. Will there be rep companies that regularly pay attention to 20th Century musicals? If so, I'm sure most Sondheim will get done by such companies--granted, some shows more as a curiousity (the way other plays with lesser general appeal pop up sometimes from, as mentioned, say G&S Societies.)
As also mentioned, it's harder to tell as well since his material does exist in film and audio copies--really, when it comes to theatre, that's a relatively new thing.

I hope not, of course, but if another President is assassinated, wouldn't Assassins become immediately outdated? Or at least incomplete?
(Not that it would take away from its general themes and all that jazz...)

I'm just trying to look at it from the perspective of 250 years from now, which is probably a ridiculous thing to do in any case. Better than working, though.
