Which version of Company should stay on my iPod?#1

Posted: 1/16/11 at 2:23pm

One of my New Year's Resolutions was to listen to some new music. I have purchased several new songs and cds, but now my iPod is full, and taking off songs is killing me.

I have the complete cds for both Company's OBC, and the most recent revival on my iPod. One has to go! I have lost many nights of sleep over this dilemma. I love them both equally so you all tell me which to keep. I'll do what ever the consensus says to do.

Thanks.

I always keep the OBC on my iPod and cycle the Esparza revival CD in and out every now and then. Just my personal preference.

I would keep the original and Raul's tracks from the revival.

I keep the original and the Larry Kert tracks from the London Original Cast.

Listen to them both and keep the one you like better. Why should what anyone else says matter?

And also, you do know that you can keep things on your computer, in iTunes or not, and not transfer them to your iPod, right? You can uncheck the names of the songs in iTunes, and set it so that the unchecked ones won't transfer when you synch it, but you can still keep the files on your drive. You won't have the unchecked stuff in portable form, obviously, but this is a good way to keep from losing the music you take off of your iPod even without having the physical CD. (And that way, you can even mix and match).

I personally prefer the original if not just to stay away from the annoying revival arrangement of "You Could Drive a Person Crazy"...

Lord have mercy! As I said in my post, I love them both, so I am letting the board decide, and just being kinda silly.

I just removed Raul's version. I am replacing it with She Loves Me (Revival with Boyd Gaines) which I found used for 5 bucks! I have never heard it before.

Haven't heard the Boyd Gaines "She Loves Me," but at some point you need to get the OBC. Barbara Cook makes it worth owning.

That the version I was looking for, but i found this one for s bucks so I grabbed. I'll get the OBC to, if I like the songs.

I like the London version best (Adrian Lester as Bobby, I think?)

That's the one I play over and over

I'm so glad I don't have this problem (yet!)

I try to just put my favorite recording of each show on my ipod, but at the moment I have a few shows that I keep more than one recording of and I'll listen to which ever one I'm in the mood for on that day.

I much prefer the 1970 recording to the revival. The cast is more distinctive and the remastered sound is exceptional.

The Doyle revival is a rare recording that never feels like I'm listening to something canned from a studio when I play it. It's hard to express what I mean, but it really feels like the show is living in my head when I listen to that recording. I feel the same way about the album for Doyle's Sweeney Todd, as well. I much prefer it to the OBC, which is too bouncy and 70s-sounding for my taste, but I realize that that's what the show originally was, and definitively IS to a lot of people.

Well you won't enjoy the upcoming Philharmonic concert. I for one cannot wait to hear the original orchestrations live. I think they are some of the greatest ever created for a musical.

Bouncy and 70s sounding? It's NEW YORK!! It's metallic! It's BRILLIANT!!!

Sorry, I just love that album and those orchestrations. I'd never take it off my iPod.
