I saw those garbage costumes in a video preview and decided to avoid the whole mess. Glad I did, from what you're saying here, I saved my eardrums.
Double digits?! Wow.
I avoided it. It sounded like some Bernie Telsey wet fever dream.
For those who are new-ish to BWW, you ain't seen shilling until you witnessed the flock of shills for BKLYN dominating this site as early as six months prior to the show's opening.
The show, like the costumes, was garbage.
It was my first and (I hope) last time to see Espinosa, a meeskite of the first water who, like most homely belters, has no taste other than believing HIGHER and LOUDER are the pinnacle of vocal art and acting.
It was not super loud. Definitely not rock concert loud. I liked it.

saw it...at the time eden espinosa's voice blew my mind. Never heard someone sing like that live before. Also the other girl in it..ugh..what was her name...amazing as well if not more so. the guys were horrible as was the show in general but that song..ugh what was it that eden sang..just incredible
A waste of time and I was given a free ticket too. A waste of talent and surprised it lasted as long as it did.
I'm in the minority that really liked it. But that's what art is- people like different things. I laugh when someone is surprised another person likes something they didn't.
I saw it on Broadway and on tour. I enjoyed both productions and both sets of casts. The costumes were fun, and the music was exciting. The story behind the production is also fascinating if you ever watch the documentary "Matzah Boy"
For some reason Broadway.com saw fit to flashback to the opening night of everyone's most hated show, BKLYN!
The creator and cast comments are bizarre. Why do they keep talking about how people can't sit still??
Kevin Anderson was still a dreamboat. I want to run my fingers through the long luxuriousness of his hair.

I saw it on tour, and I nicknamed it American Idol the musical. Every single song was belted. I don't mind a few songs that are belted in a show, but this got to be a little much.
You people are terrible.
I saw the show a few times, including the final.
Was it the best show? No.
Was it fun watching Eden (best Elphaba IMO) And others sing their face off? Yes.
My question why are people brining up something 10 years old?

One of my first jobs in NYC was in Times Sq while BKLHN was running. To this day I laugh hysterically at the memory of the poor soul hired to hand out leaflets for BKLYN walking by, trying so hard to promote that show and some woman noticed the logo and COMPLETELY REFLEXIVE and without thought blurted out "that's the worst piece of **** I have ever seen." It rang out of her in much the same way as a startled scream when you see a mouse in your kitchen.
Just a little thing on Logos, why is it that when the graphic design quality of the show is terrible, so is the show? BRKLYN, Glory Days, In My Life, Wonderland, etc. have all had pretty cheap-looking designs and by most accounts weren't good at all. I just wonder if there is some correlation.
I saw it and don't remember a thing about it. I guess that says something...
Also interesting is the fact that it ran for 284 performances, which means that if Not Since Carrie were to be revised to include more modern shows (or a sequel were written) the show could not be included in the book. Was their marketing scheme just really aggressive? How else could they stay open for so long?
It was a hugely aggressive marketing scheme aimed at the massive Wicked tween market in the hopes of creating new tween idols from a pop musical. There were shills everywhere, articles, videos, interviews...it was hyped for months before its opening and then the "LIVE!" cast recording.

Quote of the year! (so far)

I think the art for In My Life and Wonderland are pretty good. So no, there is no correlation.
Yet another odd flashback:
This one recounts the bizarre origins of the show and the pitch in the Brooklyn Zoo??
This time they were apparently told to stress the MUSIC of the show. And it shows a bit of the infamous Espinosa screeching...

What Mister Matt said, plus it was a cheap show to run, the producers had fairly deep pockets, and at the time, no one else wanted the theater so there was no reason to activate the stop clause.

I must say that I actually really liked BKLYN! I agree with everyone's point that it was campy, over the top, minimal and cheesy set and costumes, bad storyline and probably too much belting...but I remember falling in love with it and everyone in the theatre the day I say it seemed to also. There was a standing-O after "Once Upon a Time" mid-show! If you accept it for what it is, it can be very enjoyable.
That being said, I can see why it's not everyone's cup of tea. But not a bad effort, just different kind of musical that was pretty different from some of the bigger or traditional shows of its era (Wicked, Hairspray, etc)
