Fraser's expression was rather ambiguous if you ask me.
As far as Tonys go, I don't get the feeling that there's enough voters out there who really love Patti enough to give her the award just because it's been 28 years since her first one and she's playing "the role she was born to play." Especially when we've got Kerry Butler who's finally going to be nominated and is doing some of her best work yet, Kelli O'Hara continuing a streak of excellent performances in a beloved classic, Jenna Russell in one of the best-reviewed productions of the season AND Faith Prince, a former winner herself, who hasn't been on Broadway in several years and seems to be well-liked by everyone. It's going to be a tough race. This is one of the rare years where each of the 5 nominees will be enormously deserving and could conceivably win.
am I the only person who is left pretty cold by Kelli O'Hara? I mean, I think she has easily one of the most beautiful voices on Broadway and she's got a sweet and pleasing presence...but she just doesn't do it for me.
i was sadly left very cold by kelli o'hara as well....very disappointing since i do adore her otherwise
I don't think there is anything much to O'Hara apart from the beautiful voice and nice looks, it's not that she is a bad actress by any means, she is just so terribly charisma-free and bland, a young Rebecca Luker.
it's interesting that you compare her to Rebecca Luker, because I adore her tremendously. but I can understand why you wouldn't exactly be moved by her performance.
honestly, Kelli O'Hara reminds me more of Audra McDonald in a lot of ways. I think they're both very talented and, like you said, not necessarily bad actresses. I personally feel that both just don't break through and connect with their audiences. I am interested in seeing South Pacific, though, and seeing what Kelli does with Nellie.
