LOL, Munk! Same here, only mine wasn't "brief"...I'm still upset about that one. The award should have been given to Patti.

How 'bout when Ethan Hawke was at the Tonys and wasn't applauding for Angela Lansbury. I know it wasn't a Tony loss but I'm just saying...
"Well, all I know is that there was a brief look of judgmental bemusement on my face before I stormed out of my living room that night."
Choke on your cosmopolitan did you?"
Haha, what do you mean, Prince?
I've read about Patti's reaction to losing to Joanna Gleason, but I've never seen a clip. Are any floating around?
now that I've heard about it I want to see it too, givesmevoice
Schwartz apparently stormed out, but that was not caught on film, to my knowledge. Wouldn't it have been something to see if while showing the Avenue Q people walking down the aisle to the stage, you had been able to see Schwartz going the other way?
I also remember Bernadette Peters not looking the least bit happy after she lost the Tony to Winokur, and then awkwardly trying to cover it up by pretending to look around for her.
When Chenoweth lost the Tony to Menzel, she had the fakest looking smile on her face.
Now, you wanna see a reaction....think about what will happen this year if LuPone loses the Tony. THAT will be something to see!

I don't want to know HOW Patti will react if she loses this year. It will be very interesting! First lets see if she can win the Drama Desk though.
The look in Patti's eyes this year will be that was a waste of 10 million..
Can you imagine Patti losing to Jenna Russell or Kerry Butler or Kelli O'Hara (which seems plausible)?
Patti would be furious.

I think I've got this basically right, someone correct me if I'm wrong; it's the worst reaction to a Tony WIN:
When John Napier won the Tony for best set design for Les Mis, he took the opportunity to express his outrage to the audience that his Starlight Express set wasn't also nominated.
I do think that Patti does have some good competitors in terms of best actress. I can see Jenna Russell or O'Hara winning it instead of her.
If that were the case then I am sure that all of the backers of Gypsy would go out and kill themselves after the awards were over. Only because the sole reason as to why this production was mounted in the first place was to give the award to Patti.
There's no way O'Hara or Butler would steal it from Patti. Her only real competition is Russell and most likely Faith Prince.
But, wouldn't it be wonderful if they did win it over her!
NO! It would not be wonderful if Patti lost! It would be tragic!
The idea of Kerry Butler winning a Tony for Xanadu is completely laughable to me.
Agreed, Em. I'm pulling for Patti.

I would be more than cool with Jenna Russell winning, too.

Peoples, at least not say Patti's locked in until ACA opens and Faith Prince is factored in. Especially since Faith Prince will be originating a role, not recreating one.

I believe Bob Crowley said something about how he "should have been nominated for the other one[Tarzan]" when he one that year for something else.
Not Barker Todd,
I believe the other show Bob Crowley was refering too was the cost of utopia in which he won best scenic designer for a play.
And, I never said that Butler has a chance for a Tony for Xanadu. Or that it is in the realm of possible. What I had said was that I wouldn't consider Patti an automatic win. There is still Kelli O'hara and Russell to consider as well. Both are two people I think actually have a chance of putting up a good fight with Patti in terms of actually winning the award. What I said and what I still am saying and what I feel is this. Don't assume that the award is going to be pretty much handed over to Patti.
Its off-topic, but I thought it was pretty funny at the Oscars when Cate Blanchett lost and she looked so genuinely thrilled for both of the women she lost to. She looked more excited than if she had won, herself.
I remember Kristin's fake smile. She leaned in to hug Idina or kiss her cheek or something and I thought, I bet she'd love to headbutt her right now.

I'm not really sure why people all of a sudden disregard someone just because they are a comedic character. I have never really been a huge Kerry Butler fan, but I did just see her for the second time in Xanadu. Every member of that cast has a very difficult job of keeping the tempo of that show up and delivering each line at a very precise moment. Comedy is not easy at ALL. I think Kerry did a wonderful job singing, dancing, skating and delivering all of her lines. I don't think anyone should exclude her right off the bat. Just sayin...

The Tonys have actually be very kind to alot of comedic roles in recent years.

Not a Tony loss, but when Martine McCutcheon won the Best Actress in a Musical award at the Laurence Olivier Awards in London, the camera clearly captured her co-star Jonathan Pryce sitting behind her refusing to clap and looking absolutely furious. Unfortunately it's not on YouTube.
