In your thoughts. if you can find clips of the reaction please post it.
Would that not be Stephen Schwartz after losing the Tony for Wicked?

Stephen Schwartz 2004. In an interview not long after the tonys as far as I recall it.

I don't think it was a video-ed experience at the tony performances but an interview with him on playbill.com or something like that.

Raul Esparza looked fit to be tied when he lost.
Aaand you just made good on the irony of the OP's username. I was waiting for someone to do that.
(Though I feel obligated to say that looking shocked and defeated isn't nearly as bad as storming out.)

That's what I'm here for, love.
And you're so good at it.
PS, your move on Scrabulous.
Patti didn't look too thrilled to see the Tony go to LaChanze.
When Patti lost the Tony for Sweeney I killed seven people! Some considered that to be a bad reaction. It's not on youtube.
When Ethel Merman lost to Mary Martin in THE SOUND OF MUSIC,
she said, "Well, you can't buck a nun."
Patti didn't look too thrilled to see the Tony go to LaChanze.
I didn't think she had a bad reaction. she smiled and applauded and seemed like a gracious loser.
[there's a clip on LaChanze's official site under "Press" in case anyone wants to give their own opinion]

I find it cruel to keep the cameras on all the contestants as they're announcing the winners anyway, and I'd much prefer to see an honest reaction versus those people who smile and fake relief, like "YES! I'm SO happy that someone else besides me won!"
I just reviewed the clip...there is no indication of Patti LuPone being angry or upset or anything.
The look on Bernadette Peters face when she lost to Melissa Jaret Winokur is the best. She has a look of shock then tries to cover it by appearing to be looking for the winner in the audience.
Alterego, is that clip posted on a website?

My favorite reaction seen on the Tony awards comes not from a loser, but Essie Davis in 2004 looking stunned at the Wicked performance. It can be seen right before the commercial break and it cracks me up how excited she looks.

Yes, but if the cameras weren't on them then you wouldn't see an honest reaction either, you wouldn't see anything at all.
"I don't think it was a video-ed experience..."
perhaps "filmed" is the word you were looking for?
I too have 'reviewed' the clip, and it's hard to tell because it's small, but believe me, on my television set that night, there is a brief look of judgmental bemusement on Patti's face before she claps.

I think it's worse leaving it on someone who's never won...like poor Peter O'Toole at the 06 Oscars.
Well, all I know is that there was a brief look of judgmental bemusement on my face before I stormed out of my living room that night.
I was there the night Patti lost to LaChanze so I taped it and have watched it a number of times and I concluded that for a nano second she was disappointed but realized she already has one!

I thought Patti did fine in 2006 and showed maturity when compared to her 1988 reaction to losing to Joanna Gleason. I don't know if it was the worst, but it's the one I remember the most. She looks like someone punched her in the gut and she can't decide whether to scream or cry. By 2006 I thought she looked more like "eh, what can you do"
