In a thread about the Dirty Dancing tour, jennamajig notes:
> My mom would love it.
And that leads me to wonder: what's the latest reading on who's buying the tickets, on-Broadway?
Is it theatre lovers like the people who hang out on here?
Or is it Jenna's mom?
(Clearly, I know, it's a mix; my perception is to assume it's about 70/30 "mom's", but I'm curious whether anyone's got better numbers...)

i'm too lazy to do it but search through his blog... he always posts an abridged version of the study done by (i think) broadway league

(it is an excellent blog to read in general)

What a great blog...thanks for posting it.
Any talk about "who" is buying tix seem to come from Telecharge...which makes sense. They'd easily be able to tell from what zip codes the majority of tix are being purchased.
Interesting results...basically divided into 4 areas:
Manhattan residents
Borough residents (but only mentioned slightly)
Tri-State Suburban
Tourists.

Yeah, but that's not the split I'm really looking for; I'm not at all sure you can infer the degree to which someone considers themselves a Broadway Enthusiast just from where they live.
Now, how many *shows* they go to? Maybe, but the locals have a built in advantage, there.
I hate that Tri-State suburban division. There are a lot of parts of the Tri-State area that aren't considered suburbs and are very different, socioeconomically, from what is traditionally considered a suburb.
It could also be misleading because I bet many of the frequent theatergoers, especially those who live in New York City, don't purchase through Telecharge.
