Who's watching The Pirate Queen documentary tonight?

Are you kidding? It was an absolute bore. There have been plenty of better produced docs on the making of a Bway show-this is not new territory. It did nothing to engage you and exposed all its weaknesses. Poor music, dark tone, irish step dancing in circles, ridiculous excerpts from book, and pretentious authors. It looks nothing more than a Les Mis that floats. I'd rather see Johnny Depp in "Pirates" again.

I'm sorry to hear that some of you didn't enjoy the documentary. I absolutely loved it from start to finish. Stephanie and Hadley gave a great interview near the end. These two have such great chemistry. I think "THE MAKING OF" could sell tons fo tickets. They need to put it on a wider release. And for god's sake, sell the DVD with some extra bonus tracks or bloopers!

Unbelievable that the Pirate Queen haters can even find a way to "dismiss" a well produced "making of" video. I've seen lots of these types of things, and whatever your thoughts might be on the show, this documentary was clearly one of the most well put together videos of a Broadway show I've ever seen.

And apparently a lot of people felt the same way. My mother tried to call late in the broadcast to get tickets, and they had sold out of their allotment by the time she called. I would call that a successful evening of marketing!

Kudos to the producers for putting together a quality documentary. I can only hope they will release it to a wider audience to help spread the word of The Pirate Queen.

Ok so I only got halfway through watching this on tiVo last night/very early this morning, and I have a question: there's a clip with what looks like Stephanie J. swinging on the ropes in the rafters, singing something about 'their stupid English boots' or something like that. I so don't remember this from what I saw in NY last week, so for those who saw both- is this from a song that was cut in Chicago? Maybe it is in NY and I'm just blanking on having seen it.

Anakela, that was in the Chicago production. I don't know if it's NY, but it was definitely in Chicago.

Anakela - That was cut out. She now says something about "all those fops...?" There was a little discussion about it because it sounded like something else at first.

EDIT TO ADD:

Definition of Fop:
"A man who is preoccupied with and often vain about his clothes and manners; a dandy.

[Middle English, fool; probably akin to Middle English fob, trickster, cheat}"

The original line was: "They'll be quaking in their fancy English boots!"

The new line is: "All those fops will learn to fear The Pirate Queen" (referring to the ship).

Same kind of idea--the English are all show (fops who care more about fancy boots than about fighting), and the Irish will teach them a lesson. I hope they're able to make "fop" really clear, though; as good as Stephanie's diction is, if that word gets muffled at all, the "family-friendly" designation of this show goes bye bye....
