I'm a boy too! According to Cinematter.com, the film project with Halle Berry, directed by Joel Schumacher has been shelved. I knew I heard this somewhere! I guess it's too bad Warner Brothers keeps chickening out on this one, it's like the third time they have scrapped the project.

Somehow, Heather Headley cracking worked for me. She was cracking during emotionally-intense sections, and it made sense. Plus, she did manage a number of full, open-throated high belts during the show...which, I think in terms of tone and quality, outshone any high belt from Lillias (whom I also adore). I think she, like Tonya Pinkins, can do no vocal wrong.
As far as Jennifer Hudson goes, she does have some theatre background, so I'd like to think she can act. She sure did feel her songs when she performed them on Idol...to me, if you can do that...even if you don't know how to act, you can be taught how by a good director.

I think this is one of those shows that should use the original staging and choreography. I am too young to of seen it on Broadway, but I hear it was perfect.

I saw Frenchie in Rent last night, and thought she did a very decent job. Whether or not she is a great actress, I couldn't really tell- but she does have "it", that thing that just makes everyone look at her when she is on stage, sometimes I just couldn't take my eyes off her. She didn't really kill in "Seasons of Love" like I hoped she would, but she was good nontheless. I'd like to see her keep getting better roles.

I saw Frenchie Davis in Dreamgirls last winter in San Jose. I was very impressed with here performance. Her "And I Am Telling You, I'm Not Going” brought down the house in a way I have not seen since Jennifer Holiday.
No choice in this matter if someone wants to revive it on Broadway. She is a name and is perfect for the part.

Ooo NYStateomind I was at RENT last night too. Loved, loved, loved it for my 9th time. But back on topic...I like Frenchie a lot and have only heard amazing things about her. The one time I met her she was kinda nice/kinda rude but the diva complex works for her I guess.

I used to love Kelly Price but lately she's more concerned with how she looks than how she sounds. She definitly doesn't sing like she did on "Friend Of Mine" which made me really sit up and take notice.
I was curious as to why a lot of people call Frenchie a diva? I've heard people say she can be rude but I havnt heard any specific examples.
I don't know about acting but vocally Jennifer Hudson could blow Frenchie out of the water. I think under a good director Jennifer could nail the part. It's only fitting that you get a Jennifer to replace Jennifer. I really wish J-hud would have sung AITY on American Idol.

Yeah, but J-Hud had a problem chosing the right songs for her voice while on the show. Atleast it would have been a good choice for her. :) I don't know about you but I never get tired of hearing AITY!

I'm also going to go ahead and say that I think Effie does need to be a big girl...otherwise "Heavy" doesn't have that wonderful double meaning.

I know she had a CD out last year and was going on all the talk shows showing off her huge weight loss. SHe also had a cameo (as a singer!) in Queen Latifah's movie "Bringing Down The House."

Michael Bennett himself handpicked Julia McGirt to replace Jennifer Holliday (and handpicked the other thinner Effies for Broadway and the road company), so obviously HE didn't think that Effie had to be overweight.
Besides, at the point of the show "Heavy" comes in, Effie is already several months pregnant and beginning to show, so whoever is playing her needs to be padded then anyway -- Effie will be heavy during "Heavy" no matter what the normal figure of the actress playing her.
