MOXIEINTHECITY, I couldn't agree with you more about Laura Benanti's future having the potential to go either way at this point. After reading some of the well deserved raves she got for the "Into The Woods" revival (I remember one saying she was destined to be the next Julie Andrews,) it is really a shame to see her encountering so many road blocks in such a short amount of time (her injuries, etc.)

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

ipecac, I was commenting based on this statement Moxie made before her list:

"I'm assuming you mean who will/should be snapped up again by another show?"

If that's the case, then discussing the potential future success of current "hot" actors would be appropriate.

Ethel Merman, Mary Martin, Yul Brynner, Noel Coward...

Their careers are stone cold dead.

I guess it depends on how you define "a hot brodway career". It could be a measure of the last years, but it could also be a prognosis of the coming years. You could include or exclude other medias for the musical such as movies and recordings. Regardless of that im sure that taking part in a movie version of a musical is very coveted by broadway actors. Apart from the high pay per hour you also become a face for the wider audience and become part of what many would consider as the definitive version of the musical that is filmed. Only enthusiasts are able to recall several different versions of a musical while for most people the premiere version, the version they have seen and the movie version will be the faces of the musical. And for all those who only have seen the movie that will be the sole face of the musical.
