I love theatre as it is all so real even when it is crazy and couldn't happen. In real life there aren't green witches who sing and fly but 8 times a week at the Apollo Victoria there are. My favourite play is An Inspector Calls, I love the way everything unravels and connects and it works because the actors 'are' those characters. You don't get that on TV, if something isn't right you can't do another take. It is pure escapism for me, In the next week I will be seeing Mary Poppins and Joseph and his amazing technicolor dreamcoat, things that you just can't see in real life. I know both of these are on DVD but it really isn't the same seeing people in a box.
Because, unlike cinema or telly, what you are witnessing is a once-in-a-lifetime, one-off performance, never to be repeated in the exact same way and performed just for those (relatively) few people in that theatre that evening. You just can't beat that!
Well, partly like SADM2 because (sorry to blow my own trumpet) I'm good at it.
More than that though, it is an all-consuming job/ craft/ life that is so huge you can never have explored every part of it, so there is alays something new to interest/ surprise/ challenge/ disturb you.
It's the place where we get tiny glimpses of how other people feel and how it feels to be other people- and god knows there are few enough times that happens anywhere else!
