Nah, I'd be shocked if BEE won this year, even if it is the best of the nominated musicals. It's just to close in tone and temprement to AVENUE Q.
Broadway will go big this year.
I was thinking the same thing. I think BEE is trying to cash in on the AVENUE Q fase and I just don't think the Tony voters will go that way two years in a row...

Wha? Spelling Bee has been in development since well before Avenue Q even got to Broadway. Yes, the fact that they're small and charming rather than bloated, star-laden spectacles is something they have in common, but Spelling Bee is hardly an Avenue Q imitator.
If you're going to leak something please try and leak something no one's heard before. Thanks.

As for Bee, while I adored it as a show I don't think it has the momentum or the marketing that Q had last year. It's a great show but I'd be surprised if it did win.
okay this was insane, damn millions of posts
if this is true then I think BEE chose the wrong year if they actually plan on winning a tony for best musical becasue I just don't think it will happen...

the Tonys are well known to be political. No shockers there.

I personally think Q's "campaign" last year was extremely tacky. I just hope that shows now wont think they need to campaign. That will definatly bring down the merit of the awards. I know people are going to say " oh your just saying this cause it beat Wicked" no, Wicked doesnt need the tony to survive. It will run long after Q is gone. But I will stand by my belief that the "campaign" was a tasteless and tacky display of sportsmanship...
Dramaqueen,
Don't be a sore loser, its not nice.
Did you vote your heart?

Gee, what does the avatar say?
I swear, in 20 years Wicked fans are going to be like Follies or Sunday in the Park With George advocates today, except with far less justification.

AVENUE Q won the Tony over WICKED because there weren't enough lonely, misfit teenage girls among the Tony Voters.

Avenue Q won because the voters in their hearts believed that a vote for Q was a vote against Bush. Simple premise, but they were wrong.

interesting perspective lwyr - wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot of truth to that...
I don't mean to be mean...but I don't think it deserved to win...BUT TO EACH HIS OWN!! :)

Yes. But, could a vote for Q be a vote against the Big Producers or the Establashment. Q is a more liberal minded show and could a vote for Q be a vote against Bush?????
George Bush is only for now?
