Mealz - why are you even defending the OP? He's not getting attacked...
he's asking a ****ing question and getting the answer. He askes why there is love so the PASSING STRANGE fans have come into this thread, to show/tell him why.
You are an IN THE HEIGHTS fanboy, regardless of what you thought of PS, so just stay out of it! He expressed his opinion. Now we are expressing our opinions! Your post isn't really an opinion.... just more of a pointless "**** stirring" kind of thing.
Leave us be! It is our job to try and make these confused people see the amazing brilliance that is PASSING STRANGE.
Such damn hypocrisy on this board!

I'd love to have an opinion on Passing Strange, but I don't have iTunes and live nowhere near NYC, and the cast recording is not out yet, so I have nothing to really listen to from the show, minus the odd YT clip or two.
I should add that what I've heard sounds good, though.
The way the original poster stated his opinion was very negative, almost hostile and not very respectful and that is why people are being a bit...enthusiastic to respond to him.
I don't really understand why the same people have to constantly degrade this show. I don't really see why it's okay to post in every PS thread about how overrated and overhyped this show is which causes every thread regardless of the original topic to turn into PS fan vs. everyone else.
Mealz,
How would you feel if people kept posting negative things in ItH threads?
Youth: You can't ignore the cultural specifics.
Dezi: Nazism was culturally specific to Germany. Should we have ignored it!?
Youth: Wow, I walked right into that one didnt I?
StateofJade: Brilliant answer, of course.
"you're looking for something in life that only Art can
correct"
Pretzel Man: "hey Stew, there IS no REAL."
Holbee, Oh. My. God. I. I ... please learn these two words: SPOILER ALERT! I repeat: SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! spoiler alert! spoiler alert! spoiler alert... spoil.. spoi.. oh forget it you can't un-ring a bell.
Holbee, pls edit a "Spoiler Alert" into your post.
I haven't seen PS or listened to the cast recording, but to be honest I haven't liked what I've heard of the score. However, different people like different things and I see no reason to completely bash one show and its fans because you happened to disagree with them.
But you haven't seen the show... or heard the entire score.
That's why I said that I haven't liked WHAT I'VE HEARD. The songs that I have heard haven't sparked any kind of interest in me. I know very well that I haven't seen the show (planning on it when I get a chance) or heard all of the score.
Don't judge until you've seen it!
I heard a rough demo with two of the songs a few months ago and thought it was pretty bad....
Then I saw the show. Daniel Breaker's performance is enough to change your mind.
Brilliance. F*CKing BRILLIANCE!!!
Trust me. If I was judging the show by what I've already heard I'd have no plans to go see it.
Jeez, just what the heck did theatergoers do in 1944? No advance recording! No CD! Oklahoma?? Honey - Puh-leeze, who wants to see a show about freakin' Oklahoma?! We can't afford $3.00!
Thanks, TOODARN.
Love you too, but why the heck are we suddenly posting on THIS thread, instead of the LOVE THREAD??

I will admit. I AM hostile. Not to the show, necessarily. But to critics who I think have lost thier collective minds. To those Tony voters who actually may have given it the edge to win Best Musical. I would almost believe I'm wrong if I wasn't quite sure "Passing Strange" is one of the biggest cases of Emperor's New Clothes I have ever seen on Broadway.
Oh, and sorry about not posting spoilers...
Ok, yes, you think all the experts are crazy because you hated it.

I think as disconerting as some of the stuff he says is, it's also enlightening and gives a little idea of what we don't see as an audience...be forewarned, Stew says what's on his mind.
toodarnhot... first of all I'm a girl, not a boy. Secondly I am not a "fangirl" I am a respectful fan, and I don't know why my LOVE For in the heights should have ANYTHING to do with my thoughts on passing strange or why you feel the need to bring it up. (Perhaps because you can't find anything to critisize in my reasonable comments so you have to refer to something that in no way relates to the matter at hand?)
"Leave us be! It is our job to try and make these confused people see the amazing brilliance that is PASSING STRANGE." EXACTLY!!! so then do that instead of caring that someone didn't like the the show, that was the point of the thread in the first place.
Winter_sky: "How would you feel if people kept posting negative things in ItH threads?" Well for starters people do. And I believe that everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. I am also very interested in why people like or dislike shows from and unbiased perspective, for my own edification. And its not like this is a love thread, if someone critisizes a show in a love thread that is ridiculous and uncalled for but the entire POINT of this thread is to understand. Also who cares if someone critisizes a show? They aren't critisizing YOU for likeing the show, and they are backing up their critisism, I don't see why thats a problem. WHy cant we all just respectfully disagree with eachother? If someone doesnt like in the heights and has a reason, good. It's not for everyone.
Also I AM NOT CRITICIZING PASSING STRANGE!!!! I think its overrated, I don't think its revolutionary, i am happy for people who it touched and I am glad they have found a show to affect them in such a way. Oh and you're forgetting the part that i LIKED passing strange. I've said that many many times. If someone would like to find something specific (use quotes) that I said that offended them and explain why, well then fine, but so far no one has done that.
Like seriously why do you all take critiques with backup (that you may or may not agree with) so personally. I swear, I DID like the show when I saw it, but slowly the ridiculously defensive, holier-than-thou-attitude-bearing PS fans (and before all the defensive idiots take that the wrong way I am NOT saying all PS fans are like that, this is in regards to the ones that ARE... there are ith fans like that too, i'm not one of them, so again i am NOT generalizing) have made it more and more tempting to despise the show, However I am above that and appreciate a piece of art for what it is and wouldnt let dumb people determine that.
Yes Mealz, we get it. How many more times can you say PS is overrated before it gets old? Oh wait..it already has.
There is barely any hype behind PS. The show is considered doing well if it's at 60% capacity. If any show is hyped up, it is ITH, where discounted tickets are 90 dollars and the lottery is hard as hell to win.
May I ask, where is this overrating occurring aside from the reviews?
Mealz:
Huh ?
Am I supposed to reply with 10 paragraphs now?????
Spelling Police: Criti C ize.
Okay if you actually read what I wrote you would see that was not the point of my post. My point is while i DO think those things, as I have said, that doesnt mean I don't like it, i wasn't trying to start that in this thread, what I was trying to say is I'd like to know where all these people that I've so deeply offended are getting that from. Any critisism I've had of the show was not mean spirited, it was my PERSONAL opinion and all I've gotten in response are harsh insults like "omg you only HATE ps bc youre an in the heights fanboy" (good one btw lol) or "why do you have to bash ps" the thing is i NEVER bashed ps NOR do i hate it, which was the point of my post in the first place. Just because I think something is overrated doesnt mean I think its bad and I don't understand why no one gets that. I think Hairspray is overrated and it's one of my favorite shows.
"May I ask, where is this overrating occurring aside from the reviews?" Word of mouth. I mean I don't want to get into this and was trying to avoid it but since you asked... Everyone who i spoke to who had seen it just said how great and revolutionary it was, then when i saw it, i was let down. I just didn't think it was as good as everyone made it out to be and I dont get why anyone would be offended by the fact that I felt that way.
tinymagic... i'm not sure what you're confused about.
