"Some tool on a bootleg board made Jon Groff & cast a cookie shaped like a Tony Award the weekend before their Tonys. Yeah. Mad lame"
Actually, she made him a cookie a few weeks later, because he did not win. She made it for him, but then it broke, so he never actually got it.

If the question begins "why?", then try out the answer "because he/she/it/they/you is/are stupid". If it sounds feasible, then you have your answer. ^_^
Also, because no one ever taught them about boundaries. I don't understand why people don't feel uncomfortable crossing over these boundaries; I feel deeply uncomfortable stage-dooring, or messaging a performer with a question. I have a blog where I keep track of certain performers, and I know that the performers who are aware of it think it's rather jolly, but I still feel somewhat guilty about it. I don't think I could ever go up to a performer with a proud smile on my face and say (in essence) "here! I've been stalking you, and here are the fruits of my labours!
". :/

Posted: 12/19/08 at 2:08pmWhen I stagedoor, I just tell 'em, "You were awesome", ask 'em if I can get a picture with them, thank them and let them go on their merry way. I don't even friend these people on Facebook. Cuz they don't know my life.

I'm pretty sure I have seen (as with many of you) backstage videos where cast members not only keep a fan-made scrap book in their dressing room, but mention it on the video as being very special to them, and when they are feeling down, they look at it, and it gives them a boost and reminds them that even if theyre having a ****ty day, their fans are out there, and they do the show for them.
Now I'm not saying I would ever make a scrap book, I have never felt inclined to do so. Just don't be so quick to judge the people who make them, and don't be so quick to judge the actors and thinking that they all hate it and think it's annoying. Theatre is powerful and can make a big difference in people's lives. If someone wanted to thank an actor for their work they're inclined to. I might write a letter, you might write a letter, but some people may not be good with writing letters, or are visually inclined, and enjoy making scrapbooks.
With saying that, I too agree that some people go too far, but a scrapbook never hurt anyone.

Posted: 12/21/08 at 11:10pmI'm a little confused here. What would a person put in such a scrapbook? Pictures? I think the cast already knows what they look like. Reviews? It's a good bet that they've already read them. So what goes into the scrapbook?

Pictures of them at the stagedoor that have captions under them saying things like "OMG!!! [Insert persons name here] I saw you on [Insert day here] here is a picture of your face all close up!"

Posted: 1/2/09 at 1:23pmI am sure that it's flattering to the performer. It starts to get creepy when fans show up at the stage door MANY times, with a new gift in hand at each visit.

IF the actor keeps the scrap book longer than 15 muinutes, then they usually do throw them out at the end of the run.

Posted: 1/2/09 at 1:32pmI don't know if you'd call it a scrapbook, but years ago I helped put together a book that contained a lot of letters from fans of a touring production that closed. I ended up giving copies to the cast and conductor, and a few others were sent to ex-cast members, etc. The letters in the book were basically why the show meant so much to them, and fond memories they had of said show. I remember when passing them out that everyone who got one was thrilled with it. I even had cast members making sure everyone who was suppose to get one did. At the time it seemed like something nice to do to keep the memories of this moment alive for years to come. I haven't done another one since.

The same reason that people dress up like characters from [Harry Potter/ Lord of the Rings/ Star Wars] to go to the movies.
Ooh. You got me. I've dressed up for every Harry Potter book and film release... and I still think making cast scrapbooks is creepy. (Then again, I am in high school. And at least I don't go to these events alone!)
