THIRTEEN ORDERS OF FRIES!
Anyone notice that SPAM guy looks a lot like Marc Kudisch?
(Or is it him? Forgive my ignorance.)
Where can I get some really good Huevos Ranchers in Manhattan? Private me.
At the Life Cafe!
Seriously, it's on the breakfast menu there. :)

The producers of Rent were staying in New York. After the matinee, they went back to their hotel room to rest. The maid was cleaning the room. She asked them "What sort of things do you produce?" and they said "We produced Rent." She swore at them in Spanish and told them "Why do you produce a musical about junkies and bums? You could produce a musical about nurses or teachers. Even a musical about a policeman would make money!"
So he went back to the theater and announced a closing date immediately. Those hotel maids sure are powerful.
If I were to post a picture of a dildo to celebrate Rent, would this thread get deleted?
I always thought the Spam guy looked more like Adam Buxton, but only when you're scrolling past him. If you stop to look properly, he doesn't after all.

I think it's closing so they can open "Rent 2: Everyone Is Dead".
It's selling well because it is closing, so everyone is scrambling to buy tickets. Before it announced a closing, it wasn't doing too great.
It had a long, healthy run.
So that EMMA ZAKS's productions of RENT can be legal.

To BUDA!
Sorry to burst the original poster's bubble, but AIDS is not a hot topic. Still exists, unfortunately, but it isn't a hot topic anymore. It wasn't really a hot topic in 1996 either. In the 80s and very early 90s ('90-'94), it was an extremely hot topic, but by '96, there was other stuff going on in the world. In fact, Rent was dated before it even opened. You might say it opened about five years too late.
It's one of those shows, like A Chorus Line, that opened after a bad season, that had fresh, young people in it and that people touted as "Revolutionary." Nope. Not a chance.
And don't criticize this as being homophobic or ignorant. AIDS is a god awful thing we need to find a cure for, but by 1996, it wasn't THE hot button issue. And the way it's portrayed in Rent...that's REALLY dated.
