Why is NPR streaming Follies for a whole week?

I thought it would just be on the 22nd, but apparently they're doing all week. Won't it hurt album sales because people will have had free access to it for a week?

If someone wants it bad enough they could have it forever just by recording the stream, but I presume that PSClassics (or someone else) is using a different business model, and a smart one at that. They know that the bulk of their customers will pay for the entire *package* not just the music. That's why PSClassics produces their CDs so well, with large booklets full of great photos and slipcases. Because they look great they also make gifts. I bought two already. I'm sure I'm not the only one who did.

I preordered mine as well and I love it. I just hope this doesn't work against them.

If someone wanted it so bad there are already easy to find torrents, etc. I think with NPR, most who will listen to it ae people who either know little about the show but are curious--or will buy it anyway. Follies isn't the new Gaga album, in this case I think streaming it for a week will only bump sales.

i think it's great of them. i'm pretty broke at this point, so it was wonderful to thear the official album. that will not deter me in buying the album in the future, but i've already listened to the npr stream a number of times.

I have also listened to it several times on NPR, and still plan to purchase the recording.

I'm hoping people who wouldn't normally be interested in FOLLIES, listen to the album on NPR and then go see the show.

They did it with The Book of Mormon back before it came out as well, and I don't think it hurt their sales at all :-P
