*It is very, very difficult to get tickets to.
*The tickets are expensive, especially if you want to get decent seats.
*Even if they are decent seats, they still require opera glasses to see the faces on stage.
*You have to dress up for the occasion ( "black tie, please", so the ticket says).
*You have to queue for an hour before they would let you into the hall (RCMH)
*While, on the other hand, you have a choice of seeing it close-up on TV in the comfort of your living room or bedroom, for free!
So, why would you like to go to the TONY Awards???
To me, it is the great feeling of community that pervades the place when everyone cheers for every nominee...and the exhilarating feeling shared with like-minded people that another good theatre season has come to a close!

So, you answered yourself? Were you having a monologue there?

For Stephanie and The Pirate Queen?
I'm also a great fan of Steph
The only sane and main possible reasons that should force anyone to ever have to go to ANY awards show are:
-You are a nominee-
-You are escorting a nominee
-You are the parent, sibling, devoted friend or employee of the nominee.
-You are presenting an award
-You crave publicity and are wearing something that will definitely grab attention such -as a swan dress or a brace of dead ducks around you neck.

I'd go to see Patti LuPone win her second Tony or to see Patrick Wilson win his first.
I'd go to see John Lloyd Young win his.
I'd go to accept my award.
I would go to see Rath win her Tony!

Even 12+ hours later, I still find that hysterical. Wow...what an odd sense of humor...

To hear Mandy Patinkin at Tony rehearsal scream for the band to play faster as he sings (when he is singing to a pre-recorded tape).
Thank you SweetQ, I found the original post even funnier...

Because I would be drooling looking into the Orchestra seeing all of the people who I LOVE!
None of that stuff matters! Just to be in the same (ginormous) room with all that talent would be AMAZING.

That's interesting Jo, very interesting :)
I guess I want to go because, kind of like singinswinga said, there's so much talent in one room. Not just the people winning the awards are fantastic, but even the presenters. It's the Oscars for Broadway people.
