JOHN LITHGOW I just realized, your last name is Butz! Both "Norbert" AND "Butz" are in your name! You must have gotten picked on a lot as a child!

I'm glad to hear that JLT's performance is good, I knew it would be since she's pretty much good in whatever she does.

As for Hearn I can't imagine him being worse than Joel. I'd take anyone over Joel any day. The part of the Wizard is so underwritten and his songs are so awful that its very hard to make him even a character worth paying attention to, and Joel just didn't do it. He was a complete nonentity on the stage. I think Hearn should do wonders for the part, he's a talented man and at the least should be slightly better than Joel.

And hang on, when did you win the discus?

TheGA, I enjoyed your review. I like WICKED, and have seen it several times(yet dont see myself going back anytime soon) the changes you pointed out seem great. Idina seems very comfortable in this role and i am glad to hear that she is still keeping the role fresh and new for those audience members who are there on their 2nd or 3rd time to see the show.

Your review was also good because I liked how you backed up your opinions with what you observed. It wasnt the oh so common "idina is great and can do nothing wrong" threads. Thank you! It seems like you enjoyed yourself.

Though scattered and divided we are still its heart...AIDA SEPTEMBER 5th, 2004...one more longing backward glance... I AM NOW "TGIF!"

Yeah, I don't think "Idina can do no wrong". She's a human being, just like everyone else. She was FANTASTIC the other night, though :)

You also have to cut George some slack. He had to come into the role VERY quickly. I'm sure he'll get comfortable in the role soon.

Agreed. However, to be fair, he had the same time to prepare as JLT did, and she has a much more demanding role, which she seems to be fine in.

How far ahead did they actually know Joel was leaving? I mean it wasn't as far ahead as they knew Kristin was because originally he signed on until January. Since his leave wasn't planned in advance, I'm sure getting Hearn in was a bit of a rush job.

Kristin's people announced her departure date on April 18, though I don't remember when, exactly, JLT was hired. Sometime in June. Joel's last performance was (I believe) June 13. Sean had been filling in since then.

I believe that Joel's last performance may have been June 9, but correct me if I'm wrong...

I'm glad you had a good time. I'm so excited to see JLT, having seen an understudy for Glinda only once in the many times I've seen it. I'm especially interested about the chemistry between her and Idina.

That's too bad about George and Joey though. The Wizard is such a small part that hopefully the show won't suffer too much from George's performance, but I'm worried about Joey. I HATED the way they changed "As Long As You're Mine" when Taye was Fiyero, but I'm not happy to hear it done that way again...

TheGaIsSilent, don't apologize for writing your review in the present tense b/c you're supposed. That was pretty arrongant to say that you were speaking of him in general. It sounds like he has the same problem Joel does, only worse: he's lost what he had. I loved Sean McCourt's Wizard, and with him in, it's anything but a mediocre role. Why didn't they just hire a new swing? Wouldn't that have been cheaper? I can't wait for 8/15 in BB5. I'm hoping that since that's so close in, it won't seem to partial viewish, b/c I know the isle on the right of row B isn't so good (that's where I sat the first time).

BB5 is excellent. The left side partial view seats are much better than the even side on the right.

I am watching him in Sweeney Todd on TV right now. No matter how many times I see him in this show, he never fails to amaze me.

Oh, that really stinks. That's one of my favorite songs from the show, and Norbert and Idina's voices go so beautiful with it. I'm unhappy they've changed the way they sing it because Joey's voice can't do it that way. Hmmm, I wasn't that crazy about Derrick Williams, but maybe I'm better off if he's there when I go next month.
