Posted: 6/8/04 at 2:14pmSorry to say but the Wicked CD has been the best selling Broadway CD since Rent. It is number one on Amazon and has been in the top twenty since its release!!!! Also, I think the Tonys got it wrong this year. If they wanted something edgy and only ascessable to adults. They should have waited till next year, JERRY JERRY. Music is much better that AQ could ever be. I hope the Tonys didn't blow it...................peace

"Music is much better that AQ could ever be."
Like Something Bad, Dancing Through Life, A Sentimental Man, Wonderful, Thank Goodness, or One Short Day? All of those songs are weaker than anything in Avenue Q. Have you seriously been checking every week to see if Wicked is in the top 20 on amazon.com? Right now, Avenue Q and The Boy From Oz are also listed in the Amazon Top 20 (unbeknownst to me it must be the Broadway equivalent of Billboard). CD sales on Amazon have nothing to do with the Tony voters and their decisions. Mamma Mia was a big seller worldwide, yet it wasn't even NOMINATED, darn it! ABBA is furious! Parade won a Tony for its score, but I don't think it went platinum.
Jerry Springer the Opera could very well win next year if it's competition isn't too stiff. The score is gorgeous. I Just Wanna Dance is one of the most beautiful musical theatre ballads I've ever heard.

You don't like "something bad" from WICKED? I think there is something very sexy about a man who can bleat in a song.......
BAAAAAAAAAAAAD, Sorry!

Someone with even a child's understanding of music sales will know that where something places at Amazon often has little to do with where it places on the actual sales charts (i.e. something like 'Hairspray' that did premier high on the Amazon chart still didn't crack the actual sales top 100.) In terms of actual sales I believe 'Wicked' barnstormed into the mid-80's it's first week before falling out of the Top 100 from then on.
I realize you don't know or understand any of this, but, hey I thought I'd throw it out for everyone else.

Posted: 6/8/04 at 9:56pmAVENUE Q has amazing songs, but none of them beat any of the afformentioned in WICKED, except maybe "Sentimental Man." Plus, WICKED has, "For Good" (my favorite), "Defying Gravity," "I'm Not That Girl," "Popular," "No One Mourns the Wicked," "No Good Deed," and others. That's more than AVENUE Q.

I love AQ's songs more than Wicked's songs. I loved Wicked when I saw it, but for some reason I just can't seem to put the cd in my cd player anymore. For Good (don't shoot me) is beautiful but it bored me. Defying Gravity is great, I'm Not That Girl is good if only for Idina's controlled performance, Popular was funny but it is just annoying to me now (after hearing millions of girls in my school sing it loudly and off-key; NOT pleasant), and NOMTW is...well, meh. No Good Deed is haunting and dark, but I just like Avenue Q's songs more. I love all the songs on the AQ score. Yes, even "I'm Not Wearing Underwear Today." Tee hee!

I concur. Bravi, bravi, bravissimi!
How silly can a person be? (I refer, of course, to the person who began this thread). "I'm sorry to say but..." WHAT? Who starts a thread like THAT.
'Oh, Sorry guys, you all suck and my mostest favoritest thing in the whole world is the best thing since Idina (equivalent, you see, of sliced bread...but sliced Idina sounded wrong) and you can't stop me...plus I know all my facts. GOOOOO Amazon.'
That is what that post sounded like to me.
Oh, and wait, this is one of the best parts: "If they wanted something edgy and only ascessable to adults. They should have waited till next year, JERRY JERRY. Music is much better that AQ could ever be. I hope the Tonys didn't blow it...................peace"
Wow, you're super-certain, aren't you? Hello? Avenue Q is THIS YEAR. JERRY SPRINGER will be NEXT YEAR. Is it just me or do you not understand the Tony process. Hm...something to ponder. No, I'm done. I'm siding w/ Namo.

#13re: Wicked Cd ......
Posted: 6/8/04 at 10:51pmI don't know how I feel about this topic. I love Schwartz and after 30+ years of service to broadway still gets screwed out of his long deserved tony. But Avenue Q is new and inventive and fun to listen to. However I don't think it is how broadway should be.

My thoughts on the music in WICKED...
Not for several years has there been a score so hummable, yet so interesting and so... solid, as WICKED's. I study music, and it is something I am very familiar with. I believe that the music from AVENUE Q is okay, but really nothing special, and I strongly disgaree with those who say that WICKED has a weak score. Sure there are some weak songs (ahem... Something Bad), but there are SO many great ones.

NameinLights-- I'm gonna also now admit that "Dancing Through Life" is a guilty pleasure.
I can't always listen to it, but it has definitly grown on me. I must say though, my favorite is when it is live--Norbert hitting some *good* riffs at certain points is excellent. And the number is entertaining to say the least.

I love Dancing Through Life, but I havent seen Avenue Q yet. Still Im happy they won, everyone expected it to be Wicked.
And ive felt the sentiment of 'please dont come back' towards a lot of newbie posters since the tonys. sigh.

Posted: 6/9/04 at 3:25amSee Avenue Q please, its hysterical (as I'm sure you well know). And as for the new posters, lets just grin and bear it, and watch as they go from "Oh, I can't believe such and such" and perhaps slightly irritating posts, to truly intelligent comments on the Great White Way.

Posted: 6/9/04 at 3:30amhey mynameinlights... i acutally do like dancing through life...and although its overrated i do like Wicked... but the fact is Avenue Q desearved to win so much and I was so happy when they did. the sheer imagination it must have taken to come up with those songs and that plot... its an amazing show, and people need to see it before handing down judgement on it

"Nessa?"
"Yes?"
"Uh, Nessa? I've got something to confessa..."
How could you NOT like the brilliance of that rhyming???
#22re: Wicked Cd ......
Posted: 6/9/04 at 10:41amThe only part of Dancing Through Life I like is the "we deserve each other" parts. That, Defying Gravity and Popular are all great, the rest can be kind of dull and uninspiring.

"We deserve each other, don't you see this is our chance? We deserve each other, don't we Boq?"
"You know what? Let's dance!"
More brilliance.............

Posted: 6/9/04 at 2:16pmI love "Dancing Through Life" too. I like WICKED better, but if you haven't seen AVENUE Q, you really do need to. It's a great show in its own rite. I'm not sure "humble" is the word I'd use for the WICKED score, but musically, it's really amazing.
