re: Wicked LA Backstage!!!

OK. Look. We are NOT negative.

If you READ the posts (those unchanged) you will see that there was no attacking or squashing of joy.

The only attacking has been against us.

And about the jealous thing, I have been backstage before (and so has BwayTheatre11). And I too read his entire journal and was happy for him and his friends. They had a great and amazing experience.

It would be nice if you stopped editing your posts. re: Wicked LA Backstage!!!

Just a simple question...one simple question.

re: Wicked LA Backstage!!!

Okay, yeah see that? That comment RIGHT above this one...?
That's what I'm talking about.

It's miraculous, it really is, how much pleasure some people
seem to derive from lingering around boards starting petty squabbles with people they're never going to meet.

I'm editing my posts because it's the next closest thing to deleting this post altogether... which I can't seem to find how to do. It really obviously wasn't worth my time.

"starting petty squabbles with people they're never going to meet."

Hey now, I distinctly remember posting how I am going to the SF opening show (hopefully, if my luck is with me with the lotto). I insinuated that we should get in touch and say HI while there. NOW, I'm not so sure because YOU have been quite rude to ME.

And if anyone was "starting petty squabbles" it was YOU. Sheesh.

I think all that matters, whiskedaway, is that you've got an ATHF quote as your signature! :)

Goodnight everyone.

Congratulations EugLoven, you and your friends looked like you had a blast!

Ok, I don't know if I am completely jacking this thread here, so someone let me know if I should start a new topic, be OT, etc. but are theatre folks *always* this accessible? I come from a television background, and we were never this accessible to the public/fans. The last show I worked on everyone who went backstage for anything (I'm talking anyone from Producer to the guy from the florist with the dressing room arrangements) had to get a credential with his/her photo on it, and then the credentials had barcodes in them that security swiped to see if you still belonged or if your time had 'expired,' not to mention metal detectors, etc.

And then I always read about theatre fans at the stage door, being backstage, etc. Stephanie is totally on a first name basis with like half the people in the lotto line at the Pantages, I see her there all the time these days. And everyone just seems so kickback about it all. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing, not at all! But I am a little new to the theatre scene and I am curious if everyone's always this accessible?

re: Wicked LA Backstage!!!

Generally speaking, theatre people are very accessible to fans. Most will stop at the stage door for autographs, photos, or to chat. The backstage thing is less common. I've never heard of a show doing this before, where they ask random people to come backstage. It's usually done by invitation only by a castmember or someone involved in the show, and usually just family and friends.

After reading all the drama on this thread, I have to say that I don't think it was wrong at all to inquire as to whether they had permission to try on costumes and especially, to take pictures. I know that the friends I've had in professional shows have allowed me to try on pieces of THEIR costumes in their dressing rooms before, but certainly not of anyone else's. Also photos, except in the dressing room, were a huge no no. Even being backstage with a friend, you aren't allowed to wander around on your own looking at props, etc. I think it's great that Wicked did this for this group of friends, but the original poster could have easily avoided this drama by answering the question as to who was giving them a tour and who gave them permission to take photos. Simple as that.
