Hey, last November my boyfriend and I bought tickets to go see Wicked in LA. We bought the tickets for 2/21 before it was scheduled to be the opening night. Im so excited. However, I have never been to an opening night anywhere, and I live in NY. My question is, is there anything special I am supposed to do? For example, what should I wear (how dressed up should I get....ps-I'm a boy lol), how early should I get there? I really have no idea how this all works because I know alot of press will be there. Any info would be great! thanks so much!

You should dress casual to dressy. I would go for like a nice sweater and some slacks(no shorts or sweat pants) if you can make jeans work, then do that. I know some guys that can make a pair jeans look dressy and I am so jealous In otherwords, go very presentable. 7:30 is fine time to arrive. Expect lots of Celebrities and lots of press (it is opening night after all). Just go and enjoy yourself. You and your boyfriend will have a great time.

Q:What advice do you have for aspiring Broadway stars who are terminally shy? I love your work, because you seem so bold. How do you do it? A:"I think I take more chances on stage then I do in real life but you can't learn anything if you don't challenge yourself. And don't say "terminally". If you love to perform then you have no choice, just keep training and focus on the words or the music whenever you find yourself slipping back inside yourself. You're not doing anyone any favors if you withhold your talents from the world"- Idina Menzel

For the "regular folk" an opening night is not much different from a normal performance. Yes, there are celebrities there but dress nice and arrive half hour prior to curtain. If you dont like the show, DON'T SAY ANYTING until you get into the car on your ride home. I was at an opening night sitting next to a man who bad mouthed the show while a cast members husband was sitting right next to him.

"I was at an opening night sitting next to a man who bad mouthed the show while a cast members husband was sitting right next to him."

I agree it's bad etiquette, particularly on opening night, but who the Hell cares who hears it? It's not like they can really do anything. That said, opening nights of tours and sit-downs aren't as big a deal as opening nights on Broadway, since the show has already proven its worth. Those are usually (at least in Chicago) the designated nights when the press can view the show for their reviews.

I saw Millie at Marriott Lincolnshire and I said to my friend that the Millie (Terri Kelly) Wasn't as pretty as Sutton, and her parents were sitting right infront of me. Yikes!

*END-OF-MUSICAL SPOILERS*

At the end, when the Wizard realizes Elphaba is his daughter and you hear 'Have another drink, my dark-eyed beauty', they added this thing where the actors playing the young Wizard and Melena come out and dance, like at the beginning.

It's just for a second or two...like he's remembering it or something. It's exclusive to LA.

Question: In the Broadway, Chicago, Tour, and London productions, in the beginning, is the person that plays the Wizard when he comes in with the elixer for Melena, is that the actor that plays the Wizard later on in the show?

No. It's an ensemble member. The Wizard's song is prerecorded by the actor playing him.

Its an ensemble track. They use the actor playing the wizards voice.

Wear something nice and try to keep quiet until you leave the show - you don't want to offend anyone. Congrats on getting tickets!

I thought it was the guy who plays Fiyero.

Unless they changed it, it is the guy that plays Fiyero. All the ensemble are being used as "ozians" for Noone Mourns the Wicked...

'yeah i would say get dressed up, since I usually hear about tuxes on opening night, but don't wear a tux, just look nice'

No one in L.A. wears tuxes to opening nights..except for maybe the opera.

It's LA...

HELLO!

Wear the hottest trend.

A great pair of pants. A funky and fun shirt (I would think something with 'Elphaba Green' in it, so you can stay in theme)

Pay close attention to your shoes.

They matter the most.

I don't think it is the guy who plays Fiyero. I just watched from the front row and saw the young wizard's face, it was definitely not Fiyero.

Yea... it wouldn't work for the Broadway cast a few weeks ago, cuz well, the Fiyero was black, and the Wizard was white.
