Hi, searched for this and nothing came up but sorry if it's already been said...
Anyway...a new video has been posted on the Wicked London site http://www.wickedthemusical.co.uk/sightsvideo-med.php has Idina and the other cast members in. Quite a nice video...
Enjoy
Wow...last note is ROUGH.
I don't like that yodeling at the end of DG anyway. None of the girls sound good doing it.
EDIT: Or Tarzan yell . . . whatever you want to call it.

That girl has damaged her voice doing that show. Why anyone would ever want to come back to it, who has any common sense about their instrument, is beyond me. Proper vocal health, people - proper vocal health. lol
cool video. i think Idina is just fantastic at acting & singing, damaged voice or not. Also Helen looks absolutley gorgeous and stunning
That video doesn't do her justice, I know Defying Gravity is Wicked's flag ship song but her No Good Deed is utterly fantastic.
Helen's brilliant too, very different to most other Glindas...less cartoony. Unfortunetly it's a bit of a 'Look we've got Idina' show reel so now real veiw of her.
wow...that's rough...
poor Idina. she's just gonna mess up her voice again.
Don't judge her on that - the times I've seen her the note's been perfect and not forced. And remember she's doing it for 4 months, not 18 like last time.
My fav part is when the movie goes into slow motion during the glinda elphie fight. Helen's wig is god awful.

I love how people pass voice-performance judgements on a crappy streaming video audio. Because really, that makes SO much sense.
PS I believe we should listen to the people that have actually seen the show live to find out whether Idina's voice is in hape or not.
streaming video doesn't alter the note....
And she had vocal problems when she was in NY. It doesn't get better like that.
Anyone else getting that like random clicking sound thing. I;ve tried all 3 bandwiths and it does it...

You're right, munkustrap178, it doesn't alter the note, and it does sound rough. I'm just saying that it's ludicrous to start lambasting a vocal performance from a streaming video because it alters how we hear things. The lambasting wasn't begun yet...but I'm just doing a pre-emptive strike.
PS And she hasn't sung Wicked since like 2005? So it's had time to heal.

I think the sound quality pretty much sucks for the entire video- so it could not be her, just the transfer between the mediums... sometimes, performances that sound good live really just don't translate to video, or audio recording or whatever.

oh give me a break. You guys are SERIOUSLY critisizing idina/the video when CLEARLY it pwns?? hahha. No but really, give the girl a friggin BREAK! (obviously thats totally not directed at everyone, only the people who were all "that was ruff" lol) I personally think she sounds FANTASIC, but even moreso than that, just the INTENSITY of it all! you can tell even from that short video that she really HAS gotten even better, both acting and singing wise. And that no good deed footage... how COW. And helen looks absolutely lurvely as well. But, obviously, for me, it was all the spazzing over a video of idina. in wicked. RIGHT NOW. in london.
(oh and by the way, she and adam are HOTT together)
Thank you for sharing this video Idina is/was/always will be Elphie. She looks and sounds even better than ever. I should have known people would get on her case. There are some cruel, rude people on this board.
The issues during the NY run were the result of continuing to perform and not giving her voice a chance to rest/heal after being ill. It's not the same situation.
I do think it's premature to judge an entire performance off of one brief video. The reports I've heard from people who were there were that her voice has been strong overall, and all of the other performances I've, um... experienced from London sounded significantly better than that. JMO.
The video is fun. I love the fight.
ETA: Upon watching to it again, I really don't see what the fuss is over. The last note is a slightly touchy (which could even just be the video quality) but I wouldn't describe it as ROUGH or conclude from it that her voice is damaged at all.

Thank you, swerve
And for the other two or three people on this board besides me who cares anything about WICKED and Idina, I have heard two other *extremely* recent DGs of hers from across the pond. EXCELLENT. All I can say she is in fine form and sounding better than ever! Elphaba lives!

I don't think it was her best performence, vocally, of "Defying Gravity", but it wasn't her worst either. She had a lot more intensity, which was fantastic. I'm happy that she's getting great reviews in London and I hope she enjoys her time there. London is such a great city!

^exactly! the intensity she has is INSANE! :)
and really, to me, her voice sounds VERY healthy and wonderful!
the thing I absolutely LOVE about idina is that she lets the ACTING of every song carry the singing through, and not the other way around. For example, when sho sang, she sounded great, but she just did WAY too much with the song for the context of the show. If she was doing a radio-friendly version of DG or something, I'd think it was amazing, but the key in the SHOW is that that song already has so much going for it, and so much going on, that you really have to keep it simple with the singing. ANd that's just what idina does. She sings it, and hits the notes effortlessly, while at the same time not going riff crazy and trying to make it all showy. She lets the intensity of the moment, and the intensity of her emotions, carry the song, and imo it is PERFECT. That I've seen, no one else has ever been able to achieve that :)
wow, sorry, long ramble. haha
My vocal chords sob a little each time I hear Idina "sing".

um, she's not "sing"ing, she is SINGing
seriously, she's been taking voice lessons all her life. Her STYLE may not suit everyone, and thats totally fine, everyone has their own opinion of what sounds pretty, but to say she's not singing PROPERLY is just plain silly. She's said it herself- she's very anal about her voice, and tries to avoid harming it in every way possible (and no, that doesn't mean it doesnt ever get tired out. after going a year and a half non-stop in wicked, yeah, I'm sure her voice was a little bit tired. But that still doesnt mean she wasnt using good technique)
Taking voice lessons your whole life does not guarantee that you will have good vocal technique.
That is all.
The bits from No Good Deed looked intense. Other than that, the video is pretty mediocre... One Short Day is boring and Defying Gravity is overplayed.
We love her here - if she wants to stay and become a West End diva - no problem! Lets see what tomorrow's reviews bring.
