Wicked Movie: Soon?

With the recent success of DREAMGIRLS, the upcoming release of HAIRSPRAY and SWEENEY TODD now in the midst of principal photography how long do you think it will be before Universal Pictures gets it together and decides to make a film of WICKED?

Give them some time. I think that it's good to wait before turning a musical into a movie. It gives the film maker more freedom.

But seriously. That show is banking millions upon millions of dollars. Why on EARTH would they make a movie of it? It'll be a good long while before you see that one on the screen.

I kinda hope not.
Don't get me wrong I loved the show when it opened, but at the moment I'm a bit Wicked-ed out.
Actually the show kind of make me want to bang my head against something, and I'm not quite sure why...

Nite Owl, I am Marc Platt. I own the rights to Wicked. I had planned to announce next week that we were going into Pre-production on "Wicked, the Movie" next fall. I had signed Martin Scorsese and Rob Marshall to co-direct. We were bringing back all the original Broadway cast, except for one, where I had hired a huge massive star to take over the role in a development that would have thrilled Wicked fans worldwide. (OK, Cher was going to play Madame Morrible. Can you believe it?)

I had every reason to believe that this would have been the most popular and beloved movie ever made.

But, I have just cancelled it and put it on indefinite hold because I just don't like your attitude.

You apologise to Elphaba RIGHT NOW and maybe you'll see this movie made before you retire.
