Hopefully Stephanie will play Elphaba on Broadway sometime during the show's run here in NYC. If she does, I would recommend getting tickets and making the trip down. Stephanie's performance alone is worth the $110 per ticket.
Good review! I went last night and I was really disappointed that Stephanie wasn't there because so many people have been saying what you did about her being the best ever. And as an enormous fan of Idina Menzel that makes me kind of sad haha but it would've been nice to see what I thought!
But in any event I saw Jenna which made me equally happy because I loved her in Bare and I grew up watching her on TV haha and she has an incredible voice.
I'm not sure that I really liked Kendra as much as I thought I would. She definitely made it her own and she's very funny but I feel like she tried so hard to make it funny by changing like every word into Ozspeak or doing extra little physical things... whereas Kristin never had to do that. It was just naturally funny. She WAS Glinda.. I don't know that anyone else will ever make me quite that happy!
I do agree that I really loved Sebastian and David though... both very impressive!
I didn't really have a problem with the sound (I was in the 4th row) but I've got the score memorized haha so I don't think I would've noticed. My mom did say that she had trouble understanding them sometimes though.
Glad you had a good time in DC! Oh, I forgot to mention... the dressed up thing haha some people already said it but yeah that's pretty much specific to the Kennedy Center although I did wear jeans last night without a problem because I was dressed up otherwise. But yeah it's always been a really fancy place... it also doesn't have a stage door since it has 3 theaters. Which was sad. But oh well! Hope you come back to DC again!
Broadway Angel2,
There is a stage door for the Opera House. It's in the Hall of Nations (the furthest entrance). It's right across from the stage door for the concert hall.
I wore khakis, a sweater and a dressier wool coat to the matinee that I attended, and I still felt underdressed.
Aw man... why didn't I ask before hand? You know... I was out there and I thought I saw it. But my dad was dragging me the other way to get to the car. That sucks. Maybe I should go back there one night right before it ends and stand out there haha
The last part of my review talks about Saturday night's stage door experience, so yes, there is a stage door.
Plus there wasn't a crowd at the stage door!
"Maybe I should go back there one night right before it ends and stand out there haha"
You should. I've done that in New York before and it has totally paid off. And like Dottie said, there was NO ONE at the stage door. You will probably get to have short conversations with the actors if you want to.
Crap I really should... but it would have to be sometime this week as I go back to school on Sunday. Well everyone pray that I figure out a way to get back there!
It would have to be this week anyway. The show moves on at the end of the week. :)

YAY for sunny Tampa! I'm glad they'll see the sun again.
You do realize that DC isn't Antarctica, right?
I'm in Los Angeles, hun. Enough said? Just kidding, yes I realize that. But at least they can put away the winter coats, no?
Well, DC isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Come here in July and you'll be begging to go back to LA's lovely weather.
I *love* visiting DC. I'll definitely be back for the Little Women tour and to see Christine Barranski as Mame!
Hey i'm going to see it on Wed at 1:30 and can you tell me where i can find the stage door? thanks!
I enjoyed my visit to DC as well! I was thoroughly amused that I could physically be in 3 states in one day and that people actually live in one and work in another.
As for the stage door. You're probably better off asking someone to show you ahead of time while you're there instead of having someone here try to describe the directions to you. But hey, if it's simple and someone can describe the way go for it.

If you're taking the Metro, it's right inside the doors the Metro shuttle drops you off at. That's how I found it
If not, there are signs everywhere saying where the Hall of Nations is. Once you're there, just go towards the doors to the driveway out front. Just inside the doors to the left (when facing doors) is the opera house stagedoor. It's 2 sets of double doors and they're labled "opera house stagedoor" so it shouldn't be too difficult to find.
WAT, I'm seeing Mame this summer as well.
skittles, do you already have your tickets?
I didn't know they were on sale yet, but apparently they are. I'll get them soon, but I'm not in too much of a rush. It's not like it has Wicked's fanbase or something that I'd have to compete with.
Thank you for your very detailed review. It was a pleasure to read. I can tell you spent some time on it. I appreciate how you explain what you liked or didn't. Sometimes it's frustrating to read someone's review and they just say "I hated it" without explaining why. Fortunately, that was not the case here.
You must be a true fan to travel to DC!

Mame has been on sale for some time now- maybe a month or so. I got tickets a few days after it went on sale, but I don't think you will have any problems getting a good seat.
I am looking forward to this one- especially seeing Emily Skinner. Even if she is out though, I think I will enjoy it.

I just came back from the matinee today. I was in the nosebleed seats, as I couldn't justify spending $100 for the middle ones. (The best were sold out when I tried to buy them, two days before the official sale.) I regret it now, because I couldn't see the expression on any faces.
This was my first Wicked performance and first professional musical I've seen.
Thankfully, Stephanie and Jenna were on [which I was looking most forward to]. I thought Sebastian was a standby as I saw an insert for him in the playbill.
I wasn't thrilled with the acoustics either. On some of the numbers, the orchestra was louder than the chorus.
But what I was most glad about was that I didn't have a bunch of teenage girls nearby singing along to the songs.
But I did want to hit the woman next to me who referred to the OBC as the "soundtrack."
thank you Steve2 for your kind words. yes, i definitely am a true fan to travel all the way to DC to see the Wicked tour...i think it is a fabulous show that deserves its hit status. i plan on seeing every Elphaba and Glinda replacement for its entire run in New York.
15violins, i'm so glad that you got to see Stephanie go on as Elphaba. sorry that the sound wasn't too great for you, but if you ever get to see it in nyc, that will not be a problem at all. did you enjoy Stephanie's Elphaba? and by the way, i would have wanted to hit that woman too if she said the cast recording was a soundtrack.
WAT, I just thought of that the other day, seeing all the replacements. I don't think I'll be able to see ALL of them, but I'm definitely interested in seeing Eden and Stephanie.
I'm seeing it again tomorrow. I'll be chaperoning my sister's orchestra field trip.
