Wicked in LA

It's a movie town and powers that be at studios *generally* look down on musical theatre performers. Sad but true.

Posted: 10/17/06 at 2:08pmHaving Universal as a producer means nothing in terms of how studio execs (even Universal's) view the actors in WICKED. I don't see Universal scrambling to cast any of the performers from any production of WICKED in their films or television projects.

Posted: 10/17/06 at 2:15pmIt hasn't even been officially announced that Eden's doing it. While I don't doubt it, I don't think talking about how she's doing it again is necessarily a good thing until the official announcement.

Posted: 10/17/06 at 3:32pmThough L.A. is mainly a movie/television town, doing theatre there isn't shaby. Especially as more actors are crossing over and agents are taking note. I bet once casting is officially announced, people are going to be surprised. And I have no idea who will be in the company, but there are a lot of good musical theatre performers currently living in L.A.

Posted: 10/17/06 at 8:59pmOn that site that must not be named is an interview with Megan from about two weeks ago when she was on tour in Seattle in which she says she is in negotiations for Wicked in LA, translated: she'll do it if they are willing to pay her enough money :) Which is GREAT!!! She is so amazing in this role, saw it four times on tour and loved it, so I am hoping that happens, and I would like to see Eden too, cuz I heard she was amazing too!!!

Julia Murney and Stephanie Block have voices a hell of a lot better than Eden.

"actor- Um, excuse me, but how do you "KNOW" Idina is bored with Elphaba and WICKED? Do you "know" her personally, did she say this to you? I think not. I think you are a bit out of line there. She is very proud of her Tony Award for the role and is performing it better than ever in London at this very minute."
During her concert (as I said in my previous post) she sang "green green go away" repeatedly. She also made it seem as if she was sick of the role. I "know" she is sick of it because if she wasn't, she wouldn't sing "green green go away". It simply doesn't make sense. I suspect that she only did Wicked in the UK for a chance to live in London for a few months and to make money.

Posted: 10/17/06 at 9:33pmMillie - I have nothing against the two said actresses, they are really great.. but I didn't like them in wicked.. it didn't work for me. Its a "pop musical" and their voices seem better suited for Classic and or heavy shows.. Eden and Shoshana have a more youthful tone. I think it fits better.. IMO. :) no disrespect.

Her most recent concerts were WELL over a year ago and a couple of months after she had just finished doing Wicked for about three years. Yeah, maybe at that point she wanted a break from the role and the chaos surrounding it, but time has passed since. And from people who have talked to her about whether or not returning to the show was a difficult decision, she said no because she missed the show and it was a pretty amazing opportunity. So don't put words in people's mouths, and it's rather silly to speculate on why she's doing it...you put false ideas in people's minds.
