Posted: 7/7/04 at 10:24pmI agree, RENT may be always talked about. But here's a little perspective. OKLAHOMA completely altered the direction of live theatrical presentation. There are many now - some of whom are your contemporaries - who only think of it as a piece of antiquity, and a generally boring one at that. Keep your love and fiece devotion alive, but let it be for the art of theatre itself. It will keep you trapped in a particular place in time if you only think in terms of individual pieces, as opposed to the artform itself. I'm sure the things you love will find their place within the framework of all that has been and all that is yet to be. But there will be other shows, and other performers - and the circle will go round again. Updated On: 7/8/04 at 10:24 PM

I'm sorry Wickedrocks. It wasn't an intentional jab at you. I apologize if it came off that way. I'm a Sweeney Todd fan, I've had the DVD of the concert version with Patti luPone, George Hearn, Davis Gaines and Neil Patrick Harris since I was 14. I'd highly reckomend it. It's incrediable, especially considering they only had 3 DAYS of rehearsal.
Sarcasm's tricky and I guess I came off too harsh.
Again, I apologize

Since were were discussing Idina and Rent...can I just say...nobody can TOUCH her Maureen. Everyone I have seen/heard greatly pales in comparison.
Thank you.

Posted: 7/7/04 at 10:32pmI agree. However, Maggie Benjamin I was actually able to at least watch...she was good and very kind. Personally, I don't think anyone will be able to touch her Idina (Eden does a good job but they're totally different)

Au Contraire - I saw WICKED in April, and enjoyed it immensely! I may have a different perspective on it, but never-the-less, I don't regret that evening in the theatre in the slightest! I was VERY pleased to be sitting in an audience that was more engaged in their experience than most I have attended for years. I would NEVER deny someone that thrill. Idina was VERY committed and I appreciated her dedication and achievement. The experience of the audience crescendo at the end of Act I will be with me forever.
You don't have to defend your admiration, you just have to experience it and be thankful you can feel it. It's better than being dead to the world.

I conuldn't breathe I was laughing so hard at Maggie's Over the Moon, but Idina has her own special... something. I will always like her more. Then again, I'm that way about a lot of things. I always like the originals better. (OT, but Adam Pascal's One Song Glory is still the best rendition I've ever heard, and that's quite a few.)
Anyway, not all Rentheads are scary. I am pyschotic, but I try not to be scary about it and force my pyschoticness on others.

I didn't see Maggie perform the role, though I have her her sing it, more than once. Her voice just...doesn't do anything for me in either song. It's good, but Idina's voice just SOARS in both songs.
And my problem with the Maureens I have seen is that they seemed to be too...well...aware of what they were doing. I felt as if they were trying TOO hard to make me laugh, so I didn't laugh quite as much as I do when I see Idina. Idina just puts her hands against her nostrils and starts mooing away like a psycho...and I think it is the most hilarious thing.
