Does anyone know if wicked is still in the works of becoming a movie or has that been thrown out

Still in the works....but as a long range project. don't expect to see it soon.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

It'd be nice if there would be more updates on the films progress, so who knows. I do hope it's live-action (blended with CGI if they can make it look right). I know some people apart of the Wicked fandom are hoping for it to be an animated film. To be honest, I think that would just end up looking like a greener version of Frozen...and I don't think anyone wants that(also it'd probably be a given that Idina Menzel would voice Elphaba. Nothing against her at all, I'd just like someone else to have the opportunity). As long as they take their time with the film so it doesn't turn out cheap and cruddy, then it doesn't matter to me whether it ends up being live-action or animated.

Bumping this thread because I was reminded of this by a RuPaul fanpage.
Does anyone know what's going on with this? Any casting news, or leaks about rest of the creative team? Last official word was from Stephen Schwartz - 3 new songs, 1 previously cut song to be brought back, Stephen Daldry to direct, and Winnie Holzman's doing the screenplay.

I attended a press junket recently that promoted The Crown, Stephen Daldry was there and said he was planning to shoot the film in Summer 2018 so it's presumably still on the schedule.
We will probably hear casting news late next year or early 2018.
