"Whether you like the show or not, Phantom is the single most successful entertainment venture in any format of all time.

Just to put it in perspective, imagine Wicked still selling out in 2025 on Broadway because that's what Phantom has already accomplished"

I think 'Wicked' has already beaten Phantom compared to what Phantom had made 5 years in.

I think it is possible that 'Wicked' will still be running in 2023. However all things should be considered. For eg we live in very different times and due to Youtube etc it is fairly easy to watch these shows on bootleg. Therefore this might have an effect on it's run life. Only in that someone may have gone to see it but watched lots on youtube and decided it isn't for them. In the 80s/90s they never had this luxury, the gen public could really only rely on what the producers wanted them to see.

Just a thought at any rate.

When Phantom opened, its top ticket price was around $55-$60. so that's not really a valid comparison. Not to mention that the Gershwin is a much larger house than the Majestic. As of this instant, Phantom is the most successful entertainment venture of all time, with a gross of more than $3 billion...and it still has companies all over the world. Wicked will not catch up to it until after Broadway and London close.

As recent history has shown, movie versions of musicals have actually helped increase ticket sales to their Broadway counterparts (The Producers being the one exception). Bootleg videos will have absolutley NO measurable effect on attendance.
