Posted: 7/20/05 at 1:39pmI have to say when Wicked first came out I loved it. I was so excited for my friends to see a number on the Tony awards cause I had seen it and had been bragging about it, and I wanted them to see what I was talking about. I think TV clips are just bad. I didn't like Defying Gravity on the Tony's, Idina, as amazing as she is, was not her stellar self in that performance. but then she won the Tony. I think performances are meant for the theatre. That is the spectacle of live theatre. Isn't that why we go to see shows. We love the moments before the show goes up. I watched the Leno performance. It wasn't great, it wasn't the original cast. I hate it that everyone thinks that everyone that has come after the original cast is less than good. I know Kendra, and if you all think that she is Broadway caliber performer, listen to her in the Reviaval of Assassins when she sings "Something Just Broke" she is amazing. I know we all have our opinions, but you all really do need to chill out. We all love theatre...

Yes, it was pretty bad, but I wouldn't blame the ensemble or the leads. Having worked on a show like Leno, I can tell you that the audio guys on those shows aren't used to having to mix together some many vocals, nor do they have to worry about putting mics up and down depending on who is singing.
As for the leads, I saw "Wicked" last week in LA with the same leads and they were absolutely mesmerizing, charming and in fine voice. TV never has done theatre justice, so why don't we all chill! I mean, don't we appreciate theatre becuase it's live. So who cares if one segment on a TV show doesn't show the true strength of a theatre piece. (And yes I know it is promotion, but one should not judge a show or a performer based on it)!
