I'm going too. Anyone who thinks they are too young - just go. What's the worst they can say: no? At least you'll get to sing.

Well, all of the age ranges say 20s, so I say 18 and up is fine. 16 may be a little young, unless you look older. Though I agree- if you're in doubt, just go.

I remember there being an 18-year-old ensemble member back in 2005...just to point that out.
Wasn't the original Chisery really young, too? Too bad they're not casting the ensemble or I would totally go! I'm not right for Fiyero and certainly not for Boq. But I hope everyone else breaks a leg!

That's what I meant, fosse. The fact about theatre is there parts for certain people...there are different races in real life, too. If theatre is an extension of life then there is no problem defining which character is which race.
I would love to go to this, the only female role I could even be considered for vocally would be Nessa which is the only female role I'd want to do in this, but school takes precedence. Maybe someday.

Hate to bust your bubbles, guys (no pun intended....get it...Glinda...bubble)...but this open call looks like chaos in the making.
Going by the notion that the worst that could happen is you show up, sing, and they say no, is actually not the worst that would actually happen. If you have ever been to an open call in NYC or in any other major theatrical market, chances are they will be typing out and cutting people on the spot. As the job posting indicates, "equity procedures are not in effect." They have every right to turn people away based on appearances alone, and they are under no obligation to see each and every person who makes it past typing out.
While I wish everyone luck who is going, please be realistic...don't plan on making a huge trip out of it and spending a ton of money to travel here when chances are they will be casting no one from this call and the offices of Bernie Telsey might just be looking to expand their files of non-union headshots and resumes.
And please PLEASE while you are waiting amongst the masses, do not: curl and style your hair, apply cosmetics, name-drop, warm-up, stretch, or practice your song out loud right in everyone's faces, start engaging everyone in cheesy trivia games, talk about how great you were as the lead in your high school show, or kiss up to the moderator. I have seen these all done in the past while waiting in "holding rooms" and trust me, while people may engage in the aforementioned practices, it is appreciated by very few and admired by none.
Bravo, BooBooKitty! You're my idol! :) It's sooo true!

Yeah, and please, don't be the "token" anything. There's always that token "that guy" who is so loud and walking around and kissing people's cheeks and saying "hey girl" at everyone that passes. We get it - you think they're cool and you want people to know it. Now calm down and read a book!

Just so the Non-equity people know, typing is a common occurance at AEA chorus calls. Don't feel like it is something they are doing just to non-equity people. Also, if you think that you are absolutely right for the show you should attend. They are casting the national tour currently and my guess( it is just a guess) is that they are looking for some fresh talent. Why else hold an open call?
My bet is that Bernie is angry at his employees and he decided to punish them!
That would be a punishment indeed. I don't envy those working at the open call.

I'm thinking about the droves of people who are going to show up and that building's tiny little lobby and even tinier and slow elevators.

yeah, it's definitely not the type of thing where anyone should just show up
from my experience, people sit around, waiting for hours to just get typed out and not even get to sing. at the 'grease' tour open call, people came from 9 hours away and waited for hours, just to get typed out and have to leave
if you look too young, they will definitely type you out, so no, not everyone will get to sing

Ah TYPING! Didn't consider typing (duh). THAT will be how they control the crowds.
I'm still going. It's on my bday - so I'm meeting my hubby after and we're going to see a show. At least a trip to the city won't be wasted.
I will report back.
