Chances are no one will be chosen. AEA requires them to do an Open Call every 6 months.

No, AEA requires them to do an equity call...Wicked never does open calls so this is gonna be crazy.

There is probably no point in a 16 year old attending this, right?
Call me Travis. :)

Are they really allowed to say that Glinda must be Caucasian?
Glinda:
Caucasian female, 20s. The "good" witch. Gorgeous, charming, entrancing, ambitious, perky, vain, very popular, a social climber, but also vulnerable and sympathetic. Her friendship with Elphaba reveals more depth in her character. Needs excellent comic chops and star power. A glorious singing voice with high soprano and belt capability. STARRING
Would they really exclude a girl for Glinda because she's Hispanic/African American/Asian? No other description says "Caucasian" or even specifies race.
I'll be in Norway, probably during this, so I won't be able to go.

They are allowed to cast any character however they want.

Yeah, it is THEIR show. They can do what they want.

I don't think they actually mean the actress has to BE Caucasian, as much as LOOK Caucasian. I'm sure if a light-skinned Hispanic or Asian could look white in the blonde wig, that wouldn't prevent her from getting the part.

Yeah it makes sense. It's not meaning to be anything than what it is. They obviously are open to color blind casting.

This open call promises to be a piece of theatre in itself. I would go, but I'm not even remotely right for any of the three guy parts in Wicked. As such, I don't feel the need to brave the crowd.
Please someone go and report back.

Yeah, how old to audition? I'd guess either 16 or 18, but I'm just 5'7, so I could audition for Boq, technically.

"Yeah, it is THEIR show. They can do what they want."
That's not entirely true...they still must abide by all applicable laws. However, the Non-Discrimination Act spells out exemptions, and theatrical/hollywood casting is an exemption. So They are legally allowed to discriminate. And the actress playing Galinda doesn't have to be a blonde, since the character wears wigs.
