Wow, that wasn't suppose to come out vindictive. I was just trying to relay the message that was told to me. I didn't like the show last Tuesday because i saw it with a theatre reviewing class and i realized how much of the show is smoke and mirrors and also Katie Adams went on for Megan and she was AWFUL.Eden sounded very tired and like she didn't want to be there. The lighting is just useless and spectacular for no reason. George Hearn saved the show everytime he walked on stage.

I use to like Wicked but i feel like as i keep seeing the production it successfully gets worse. I'm not trying to be mean it is just my oppinion.

BwayBaby - sounds like you're a bit jaded. Maybe you've seen the show too much.

Boxers7 - wish i could have been there. Hunter Foster is one one of my favorite Bway actors. He's so cool.

Um is it my fault that i got to see it with the original cast who knew what they were doing unlike the new cast with the exception of George and Carol. I also took a reviewing class before seeing it and this was one of the shows we had to review and i realived the production is not as great as it appears. Ben's review is excelently true.
I really disklike how after a lot of people like a certin thing...it looses its spark to some people. Remember what you saw in it the first time and be happy.
Can somebody explain what the term smoke and mirrors is and can you give a details of the expirience you just recently had with it.
Well if people have their own opinions on things like if they choose to like a show or not to thats fine. I love Wicked myself and I do not see how others cannot like it but everyone has their own opinion.

		     			Katie Adams Awful???

You are the FIRST person I have EVER heard to say they didn't like her! Wow, I'm surprised! But everyone's entitled to their opinions!

"Smoke and mirrors" means lots of style and flash but little substance. It usually is used in a negative way as when someone is trying to cover up for the lack of something meaningful.
Emo - why did i enjoy it the first time...because i only saw it for Kristin Chenoweths performance, i only enjoyed it because of her performance.... i didn't really enjoy the show just how much of a phenominal performer ms Chenoweth is.

Well, I don't think that Wicked is the best, but I certainly liked it a lot. Congratulations to its record! By the way, BwayBaby18, I really love your icon. Too cute!
Gretch, I was totally just about to say the same thing! I've seen Katie three times, most recently a couple of weeks ago, and I could not imagine anyone thinking she's awful- I heart her; I liked her a smidge more than Kendra on the tour even.
But yeah, to each his/her own.

I like Katie A LOT more than Kendra! She is actually one of my favorites! She and Jen! I have seen 6 glinda's and even after seeing all those people in the same role, she is STILL able to make the role COMPLETELY her own! I think she's an incredible talent!
Sant and WickedGeek, thank you! I try to make sense sometimes...hehe

I saw it recently and loved it a 3rd time. I find that if I pace my visits and space out the casts I see, I find it interesting to pick up new things people do or how the story can feel different by switching a performer. I don't open the wicked threads normally and I don't see it often and it helps it stay fresh and enjoyable for me and doesn't sour my taste for it like it has for many " bitter old jaded Queens about the show".
Wow, I have to agree with Gretch and Anakela. I have never heard someone say they hated Katie Adams. Honestly, I've never heard anything less than a glowing review of her. She's also, by far, my personal favorite Glinda. I just think she captures the role so well. Vocally and acting.

wickedsnares... you haven't even seen the show! You need to calm down until you've actually ridden up the Gershwin escalator, walked into the theatre, sat your a** down in whatever seat, and taken in the show. Just cuz the music is good in a show doesn't mean the show itself is actually good. I am a Wicked fan and I've seen the show several times and I hate when random people say they LOOOOOOVE the show when they haven't even seen it. The Tonys that wicked got weren't totally pertaining to the actual story portrayed on stage. They were for the costumes, the set, and Idina. Norbert Leo Butz recieved GREAT reviews for Thou Shalt Not but the show SUCKED!
so... just as advice, see the show before you think you know it all cuz you're pissing people off.

If you dont like Wicked, dont read threads about them and post irrelevant, mostly negative topics. You bump the topics up and they wont go away then. Plain and simple.

ncarro8, "The Tonys that wicked got weren't totally pertaining to the actual story portrayed on stage. They were for the costumes, the set, and Idina. Norbert Leo Butz recieved GREAT reviews for Thou Shalt Not but the show SUCKED!" So funny and true!

Oh and In my Life wasn't that bad. Come on! You experienced pure absurdity!

C is for Company - are you trying to say i am a bitter jaded old queen about Wicked?

It was only my second time seeing it.... last time i saw it was December 28th, 2003...with Kristin Taye and Idina....

after waiting 2 to see it i thought it would have been intresting to see how it went.....

I know why i didn't like Katie, because when i saw the show Eden and the rest of the cast played it more serious then slap stick. Therefor making Katie look like a total idiot who sat there mugging the audience the entire show. Maybe it is the rest of the cast's fault but it made her look bad. She had some great line presentations but Glinda on the whole came off as this stupid blonde bimbo that needed to be shut up. She reminded me more of Dainty June from Gypsy then Glinda in Wicked.

don't get me wrong i like Wicked it is fun and enjoyable but it isn't a groundbreaking piece of theatre

Ok, I don't mean to be picky, but I'm a bit lost.

To each his own I say, you have your opinion I have mine...

but George Hearn isn't in the show anymore... do you mean Ben Vereen?

Just wondering...

P.S.- It could've been an off day for any of them, cause one of my good friends saw it 2 days after Eden got there and he said it was phenomonal...EXCEPT for Ben Vereen and Carol Kane. And he's a theatre kid who thought he'd hate it because it wasn't the original cast.

I'm guessing it was...a one time only thing?

No if you looked closely to what I had posted it was in quotes and thus weren't even my words. I was using that posters words however to describe the sad fate of those who complain way to much about one or another Wicked post and should get over it. Nobody sees me complaining that the RENT community on Livejournal clogs up my friends list with purely unintelligent garbage!
So no it in no way pertained to you, especially since the first 2/3's of that post were spent talking about how if I space out my visits to Wicked, it makes me get less sick of it. I used it to counterpoint what happened in your case just as something to add to a balanced argument but I guess it wouldn't go anywhere. Wicked discussions are so 2 years ago everyone, right?

Very true C is for Company. Bwaybaby, you have only seen it twice though. Wicked has had some amazing cast members btwn the OBC and the current cast, both here, on tour, and in Chicago. I do agree there have been soem performers who have failed to make their roles interesting (*coughRuecough*) but its always fun to see a new cast member and their own takes. I really enjoyed the OBC but I have always enjoyed many of their successors.

I would like to add my opinion having just seen the show for the first time tonight.I read a few reiiews making sure to shield myself from potential spoilers before I saw it.I went into it as a fan of the movie The Wizard of Oz and was intrigued with seeing what happened"Before Dorothy Dropped in".I think it is a good show.I like how the turns on it's head everything I was used to from growing up with the movie.I liked the songs and Eden Espinoza's performance as Elphaba. She has a powerful, booming voice and a great enthusiasm for this role.Otherwise, I was not greatly impressed.Megan and the rest of the cast were pretty good, but not great. It also seems to me like the effects were too overdone.I am not sorry I went to see it, but it did not blow me away like I had expected from the reviews I read.Mabye things seemed overdone because I was so far away from the action up in the top of the middle mezzanine. That is why I am going to give the show another chance at some point in the future from a closer perspecive.
