Hi all,
Unfortunatly i had to sit through Wicked on tuesday (it was safe to say the worst performance i have ever seen on a broadway stage). I saw the show with a class so we had a talk back after the show and we were told that today Wicked becomes the longest running show at the Gershwin Theater. It is also nearing performance 1000. I hope all you wicked fans are happy

"I think you wicked fans should be happy"

Vindictive much? You didn't like it, so it doesn't deserve success? Think of ALL The people (not just the huge cast) employed on this massive production.

And, curious, what made it so terrible for you?

Not vindictive tourboi, just after putting up with some of the Wicked related crap on this board over the years, some of us have become bitter old jaded Queens about the show (and I started out as a semi-fan).

I'm more than a little tired of Wicked threads too, but this one was clearly started with a view to upsetting all the fans of the show and get them fighting. Sigh.

Also, before it was named the Gershwin and was called the Uris Theatre, Annie played there for 2377 performances.

I'm an incredibly big fan of Wicked. But I'm not going to let an unsupported opinion-based thread stir me. And it shouldn't others.

I am proud of my favorite show for nearing its 1000 mark. For any production, this is something to be proud of.

It's unfortunate you didn't enjoy the show. I'm afraid, however, that your post seems to have deeper motivations. To start a fight? Well I'm going to put faith in Wicked fans to not even try.

If you don't mind, can you take the time to elaborate on the going-ons of the Talkback? Try to stay objective as I am more interested in the Q/A than opinion. Thanks

Objectiveness on a bulletin board? *gasp* Cannot be!

Having to put up with all the "Wicked" related crap? This is a message board, not a torture chamber! No one has to put up (read) anything. If you see a title of a thread regarding "Wicked," simply pass it up. Sometimes I'm amazed at the things people write here. No one is FORCING you to read about it. If you're sick of it, you're only doing it to yourself to sit here and read it and make these insane comments. Simply ignore the thread. It's possible. I'm not a fan of some shows, and when I see theirs a thread about one, I simply pass it by. It's quite simple, and I suggest some of you try it sometime.

Difficult to ignore (in the past, granted it is much better today) when half the front page was taken up by threads such as reporting every time X cast member was out of the show.

Actually, Popcultureboy, Annie only ended it's original run of 2377 performances at the Uris. After playing the Alvin Theatre for most of its run, Annie had short stops at the ANTA (now August Wilson) and Eugene O'Neil before settling in at the Uris in November, 1981, where it ran for approximately 14 months before closing. Thats about 460 performances or so, or about 20% of its run.

If you look up the Gershwin at IBDB, you will notice that until WICKED, nothing ran at the Gershwin, and it seems that many shows transfered there and died. This is, in my opinion, because the theatre such a big barn that most shows simply can't fit. WICKED is the first show I've seen there that seems to fit the theatre.

Oops, I wasn't paying close enough attention. But I will agree that the Gershwin is a barn. I remember thinking when I saw Wicked how soul destroying it would be to play in a venue that size with low attendance.

Annie played most of its performances at the Alvin Theatre which has since become the Neil Simon Theatre. - not the Gershwin/Uris.

That can't be true. According to ibdb, Show Boat closed after 947 performances. Wicked had 932 as of Sunday. So Wicked has another week to go.

I welcome critical thought but it is frustrating when someone just says "It was the worst performance I have ever seen". Was it just this performance or don't you like it in general?

Care to explain why?

Wow, that's pretty cool. Seems like Wicked's been running for a lot longer than 1,000 - at least to me. Such a great show, I just like how it effects everyone who sees it, at least in my encounters with the show.

ummm, i hate to be the one to point this out, wickedsnares... but not liking ONE broadway show doesn't ban you from broadway forever. people have opinions -- yours isn't right, and neither is anyone else's...because they're opinions...not facts.

this goes to both wicked fans/haters (regardless of my opinion...i'm somewhat neutral on wicked anyway) -- please don't place yourself above someone else simply because you have differing opinions on one particular show. a singular show is not the dealbreaker of all that is right or wrong.

and i agree with steve2 -- i'd like to hear more about WHY you didn't like it....not just that you didn't like it.

yea seriously how can you say that a play was really bad when it won 3 Tony's a couple of years ago. The cast may be not like the regulars of the first show and when it came out but come on give me a break its the best that Gershwin Theatre has to offer and what broadway has to offer plain and simple. Whoever thinks different is smoking something...It may not be the best but its one of the best so yea if you dont think its one of the best, as i said your smoking or on something

and yes i have my opinion but it is a good show and people have opinions but yea dont diss the show that won Tony's Updated On: 1/26/06 at 12:33 PM

Wow someone bitter about something? If you thought Wicked was the worst show ever, you should have planted yourself in the audience of In My Life (suck, duck, ****!) and watched as that horrendous cardboard lemon came down from the ceiling.

Geeez...at least the bubble is better than that...

I, like Eug, am interested to hear about this talk-back. Who was it with? Any fun tidbits shared? I had a talk-back with the Little Shop cast and it was loads of fun!

boxers7 - did you get to talk back with Hunter Foster? What did yall talk about?

Just FYI - I don't think winning a Tony Award means much in terms of quality. I mean 42nd Street won a bunch but I could careless about it. Just an opinion.

It's rare for me to laugh out loud when reading anything, especially when I saw that lemon first hand (figuratively and literally), but I really laughed out loud at this, because it's so true!

RentyBoy - Mr. Foster was at my talk-back and extremely funny. I was with a youth group full of younger children. One of them asked what he was actually feeding the plant (referring to the Act One finale). Mr. Foster replied "Well, today it was a critic. I feed the plant critics and republicans." All of the older people in the room were rolling on the floor while the children sat there with puzzled looks. Hunter replied, "Maybe when you're older..."
