There's speculation that the show will run at The Pantages for 2 years.

Sounds like they may be looking for people who are well known in LA. Makes sense.
WICKED is becoming quite the industry in and of itself.

"OK SO i just recieved this email from ozmopolitan news, which is straight from the wicked fan site. It says:
The new production of WICKED is being mounted specifically for Southern California and will feature a new company with many principal roles being cast in Los Angeles. Casting details for the new Los Angeles company of WICKED will be announced at a later date.
So basically, I dont think Eden is going to open the show. "
They said the same thing when they were about to cast the Chicago production, so Eden is very much in contention (assuming she doesn't already have a contract). As for the set, it will probably look like Chicago if they plan to tour it when it close in LA. I'm guessing it might be a little bigger, since the Chicago company was just a modified version of the tour.
I totally agree with what elphie&glindabffl says about Idina & Kristin. I hope they re-unite for the LA show
I may be alone in saying this, but I hope Idina and Kristin don't open the show for a few reasons.
1. I wouldn't want to see them doing something they've done for years, especially Idina, and not growing as performers.
2. I would really like the producers to bring in some fresh talent for these roles. Like others have said, the show will get very stale, very fast if performers continue to be recycled.
Now more of you can obsess about Elphie and Galinda. I mean, come on girls, get a life. There are enough stalkers out there without more of you at the stage door every night.
My question is: When will touring shows be able to come to the Pantages?

Most likely not for awhile. If Wicked indeed sits down for 2 years (or more?) then touring companies will have to shift to another venue. The Ahmanson will probably get first dibs, which might not be a bad thing. They can offer a diverse season of touring shows, which shouldn't cost them too much to present (compared to starting from scratch each show) and maybe take on more original material.
Brentwood or Wadsworth or Wilshire or even the Kodak can pick up some slack, or depending on show, maybe the Taper.
It does bum me out a bit, as the Pantages is a great theater since the renovations and it's just a few subway stops (Yes, SUBWAY in Los Angeles!) from the Valley.
But from a business perspective, this make perfect sense for them. It's going to be box office bonanza (have people started lining up for tickets yet???) and is going to pump huge amounts of money and much needed attention into the LA theater scene, which needs an "anchor show."
well according to the ozmapolitan email i recieved, apparantly yes they are on sale
"Unlike most of you, I am also po'd that the Pantages will not be open for touring shows. The Wilshire theatre, which has terrible accoustics and sightlines), will now host touring productions which would otherwise go to the Pantages. On the positive side, it may persuade the Ahmanson to go back to being a house for touring shows (or pre-broadway shows) rather than producing such dreck as "Dead End" and "Black Rider"."
I saw Urinetown at the Wilshire with OK seats... I will never go there AGAIN!!!!!!!
How I miss the Shubert Theater.
At least its seats are still at the Kirk Douglas.
The Wilshire theatre has to be one of the worst (not to mention uncomfortable) theatres.
AND I MISS THE SHUBERT TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
... but I'm still glad WICKED gets the Pantages :)
Ahh...
The Wadsworth and Brentwood are being used for Broadway LA shows, so that means something.
Jersey Boys will play the Ahmanson, so that's one less show to worry about for next season.
The Taper could have Sweeny Todd, Ahmanson may snath TCP, and Wedding Singer may try the Wilshire.
This is when the Shubert is missed more than usual.
Since we are talking about casting for Wicked.. Who do you think will replace Kristy and Stacie in Chicago?
I hope Katie Loprest, the current Glinda understudy, gets to take over. She was fantastic when I saw her go on this summer for Lewis. She's now one of my favorite Glindas.
