Just wondering if anyone has any bold ideas in how to end the finale of "wild party" to leave the audience saying "wow!" I think there are a lot of possibilities and I'm curious to know what other people think. The show is student directed/produced to raise money for Aids and should be great! We just want to make a really bold statement at the end. Ideas anyone?

i always thought it would be an amazing impact to black out except for a downspot on burrs' body

What are you trying to say by doing the piece. What do you think the point of the piece is. Why is the first question to ask. It'd be pointless to have a spotlight on Burrs without knowing what point you're trying to make. What does that mean? What do you state by doing that? Before anyone can help you, you need to tell people what you think the point of the play is. Do you see Burrs as the villian or the victim. That would be an interesting take. Anyway my point is go to the text, get everything you can from it, form an opinion on what the show is about, and direct the ENTIRE piece (including the finale) with that in mind. Above all make sure the point you want to make supports the show and is supported by the text.
cheers to jazzy!
i agree. let the story tell itself,to me its enough of a wow without some kind of added in big deal at the end, especially if its just to have a big deal at the end.

too bad your not doing lachuisa, i think the end is a million gazillion times better..
however, if you're doing it as an aids benefit, i would assume you want to lean heavily on the living that goes on, and not burrs' dead body at the end. i think it would be much more important to make a statement with queenie at the end. she is now being forced to go out and be real. though i don't know your set or your actress, i'm a big fan of acting without any noise.. and would focus a spotlight on queenie's horror at what just happened, her confusion.. which leads into her decision and determination of what to do next. maybe she walks out of the party and closes the door behind her... maybe the light stays focused on a closed door. different option... maybe queenie makes her exit through the audience towards the spotlight. sort of entering that other world, not being onstage anymore... a "gary beach" type of exit if that means anything to you...
but as jazzy said... you have to decide what you want to be saying... and direct the whole piece so that you lead into a big statement at the end. it will make no sense if the audience doesn't get the end.
Having the only light being a blinding light coming from the other side of the door, as Queenie heistates for a moment and walks through, and we see her sillhouette.

I think the only version that has rights available is the LIPPA version.
So no community theatres are doing the LaChiusa version.

wrong. i've seen community theatres and school groups do the lachiusa version.
Well. I remember reading the only version availabe is Lippa's.
And I can't find the company offering the LaChiusa rights ANYWHERE on the net.

Thank you for the help, Jazzy. Did R&H recently release these rights?
LaChiusa's Bway ending was cool, with Queenie leaving, and the sun pouring in, I believe.
When UCLA did it, the ending had Queenie bravely opening the front door to blue and red police lights flashing outside.

the way gw ended the lachuisa version was amazing... it's hard to describe, but it was breath-taking.
I've heard of people doing the LaChiusa version (which is far superior to Lippa's). My friend's sister did it at her college.

The rights have been available for about 3 years now...maybe even a little longer.
