Will Bernadette Peters return to Broadway

I’m curious if we will see her again on stage. It’s quite possibly been the longest we’ve gone without her in a show

It isn't.

There was a decade between MACK & MABEL and SUNDAY.

There were also 6 years between GYPSY & NIGHT MUSIC, an additional 6 years between FOLLIES & DOLLY, and it's now been a little over 5 years since she left DOLLY (and there was no theatre for 1.5 of those years).

Her current run on the West End which may be scratching the itch for a return to the stage, though I too would like to see her back on the New York stage.

Last night at old friends, Bernadette was truly on fire and sings “send in the clowns” again (finally) to perfection.  Her comic timing on Broadway Baby, Gimick etc was incredible. Seeing her read lines as Dot and then have ‘Sunday’ close act one was one of my favourite theatre going experiences ever. Bernadette and this show is ready for Broadway in my opinion. 
 

The song choices for Lea Salonga just make me think they could easily slot in Patti or Donna (loving you, children will listen*, worst pies, my friends, priest, COMING UP ROSES). However Lea was so good (almost too good because it actually feels like Lea is the main star) vocally last night I’m starting to wonder if they’d be better served keeping her around. 
 

* yes shockingly Lea sings it, although Bernadette does the ending as a duet. Of course they wouldn’t give this to Patti but maybe leave it for Donna.
