Well, Christina Appelgate is a talented woman but she doesn't have nearly the level of fame that Hugh Jackman does. And that fame was a big part of OZ's success.

Charity is not as big as Peter, but who knows. It's a big dancing role and it needs a performer with a lot of emotion. I hope she is lol. i cant wait to see her!

I doubt it. I'm not denigrating Applegate, but breakout performances like Jackman's don't happen too often. Do you really see her sweeping all the theater awards next year?

I hope she is good, because I am really excited to see the show! I have never seen it before and I love Fosse!

For some reason I sort of dislike Christina Applegate, and stunt casting in general no matter how good or "experienced" the person is in theater or singing. Even though I know I should give them a break, it's just a mindset I have. A LOT of other people are just as good or even better. That being said, I still hope it goes well!

Bwaychild89 - A small attention to detail concerning your post: While Mr Jackman may have enjoyed some recent screen stardom, his work in acting began and was heralded on the stage. He starred in productions both in Australia and London before he became a known entity in the movie world.

I saw an interview where she whined about how "it wasn't new to her, she was brought up in the theater, how dare anyone suggest it would be difficult" and blah blah, basically the same stuff Christy Romano says!

Unfortunately, they're tossing out the classic Fosse choreography and letting Wayne Cilento create all new dances ........we'll see how it turns out .....

well dont shoot down the production before it even hits the boards! im all for re-inventing old warhorses like "sweet charity"..... it didnt do "cabaret" any harm and that ran six years. expand your minds a little...it may turn out to be better than what anyone can imagine at this point, and then again it may suck big time .... but we'll never know until opening night!

Christina won't attract horny middle-aged women like Hugh did, and let's face it, there ae not that many of us straight, horny middle-aged men who go to Broadway musicals.

You guys have to remember that Jackman is a trained Musical Theatre actor. That's what he did way before he was ever cast in X-Men. Oklahoma, Beauty and the Beast---so him being amazing in The Boy from Oz wasn't that much of a surprise.
I don't doubt Applegate---I'm sure she'll be good!

I <3 Christina Applegate and am very, VERY anxious to see how well she sings and to see how well shed fare on B'way. Time will tell if she will be the next Hugh...

Jackman was trained in straight theater. The singing lessons didn't come until he was trying out for Beauty and the Beast. So even if Applegate doesn't have all the experience in the world, I'll give her a chance.

That's true, Marquise and we'll see what happens. The problem, I think, is that Sweet Charity was so defined and enhanced by the production Fosse gave it. It's going to be really hard for Walter Bobbie and Wayne Cilento to top it or match it. Sweet Charity was state of the art in 1966 and the 1986 Fosse revival with Debbie Allen still looked really looked sharp and fresh, and some of Fosse's choreography, like "Rich Man's Frug," "Big Spender," "I'm a Brass Band," "If My Friends Could See Me Now," "Rhythm of Life" and "There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This" just cannot be bettered. It's a huge challenge, particularly for Cilento.
