Couldn't they just turn Ursula into Vanessa and have her defeated AS Vanessa? That doesn't seem that complicated to figure out....

I want to apologize for some offensive messages posted on this board under my name. The night 0f 12-15-08 I did not have internet access, and someone had used my name to post something offensive. My avatar was also changed. I dont' know what else was posted, or if anyone recieved bad PMs, but I want to apologize for that. I've changed my password, and even though I was not the one posting these messages it still needed to be corrected.

Or why don't they have Sherie as Vanessa and then during the wedding ship have a double onstage as Vanessa while Sherie is changing back to her Ursula costume and then when Ariel gets her voice back, have Sherie do the talking while the double is moving her lips and then when the line comes that goes "You're too late" have a puff of smoke or something and have Sherie as Ursula appear from the smoke..Kinda like what they did with Into The Woods how they had smoke and then she was beautiful again..

I really don't see why they can't just get a different actress to play Vanessa, considering she doesn't look or sound like Ursula at all.

I think the problem is that they need her to sound just like Sierra/Ariel, and possibly were having trouble synching the voice to the actress.

Also, i'm assuming that since they didn't use a puppet for Ursula, and actually have Sherie as most of the character, they couldn't exactly turn her into the giant version from the movie realistically. Proportions would get in the way. She would have a GIGANTIC body, and a tiny little Sherie head on top. It would look ridiculous.

If anyone has the recent DVD release of Disney's "The Little Mermaid", pop in the 2nd disc, and watch the deleted scenes. The alternate finale seems feasible to be used in the stage production.

No giant Ursula, no ship crashing into anybody... it could work.

They're rewriting a lot of the show. Mermaid was scheduled to record the official album in time to release towards/near the opening, but that studio time was cancelled because of the tons of rewrites they're doing. I thiiiiiiiink they're axeing the Contest subplot and re-doing it, but I'm not sure. All the bad feedback about it was taken into consideration though, from what I hear.

Bill Finn rocks. Woot.

I think they should have part of the Vanessa costume in Ursulas, have alot of smoke and lighting stuff and have Sherie take off a glove and reach out for the shell as a blackout happens. Then, as Eric does something *maybe a son between him and Ariel?*, Vanessa emerges from the water (Sherie dressed as Vanessa).

And for a huge Ursula, get a crane from Wicked, cover it w/inflatable tentacles and presto!

I hope you are right Billfinn. It doesn't need that much to change but for the sake of the shows reputation, it is worth a little inconvenience I hope. Sometimes being a little flexible means you are willing to work to make the show the best that it can be. Since the cashbox potential is awesome, why gamble with that over some mere technicalities?
