The London production of Ragtime is NOT a West End production.
couchsurfing.org is awesome. and safe. but i wouldn't recommend traveling anywhere alone unless you've been there before or are a frequent solo traveler.
Clap, does it really matter if it is West End or not? It is going to be GREAT! And any theater lover from any corner of the world would be crazy not to fly to London to see it. Thinking maybe POL may be involved? If the child labor laws in London allow him to work.
Ha, you know what? You're almost certainly right!

"It is far more tangible for many people in America to go to NYC than to go to London. It is not an issue of cultural elitism. It is not a matter of ignorance. It is just not as feasible.
Heck, it isn't even that feasible for many people in America to go to NYC. That's why there's national tours.
I don't understand the disconnect here."
I agree with the above 101%
It is by luck I live and work in London, so my only expence for seeing a show is the ticket and a cappucinio. If as Kad pointed out you live in another city other than London or New York, it would be a considerbles expense to visit both cultual capitials for theatre, obviously if I was American I would visit Broadway and try to fit a visit to the West End if I had some spare lolly.
But if you live in New York and have a healthy cashflow.........................
Wait, I want to hear more about the "great" non-West End Ragtime that has yet to open.
Can you post links to the reviews?
How is the cast?
Do they perform the original US Broadway version, the Canadian version, the DC version or the version I saw at my nephew's grade school? That was my favorite: running time 67 minutes. WITH intermission. I kind of missed all the black characters who had to be cut, but that production just FLEW by.
>> "Money is tight for many people. They take second jobs to just make ends meet."
:: looking at the roster of shows seen by some of these folks who apparently have to take third jobs to pay for the theatre tickets ::
Cold someone kindly post a YouTube link to the snips of the TODD revival? I'm not finding anything.

Just search for "Sweeney Todd Chichester" on youtube. :)
Thanks! And aint he a cutie...
SueleenGay - Ragtime is going to be held at the Regent Park Open Air theatre, there last 2 productions Into The Woods and Hello Dolly went on to win the Olivier award for the best revival, which is equivalent to your Tony Awards, so on the back of that I expect their next production to be great.
But surely SueleenGay you probably wouldn't know that, as you sound pretty ignorant and uneducated and I assume you are the sort of person, that has never crossed over to the next state in their life.
The promo video for Sweeney Todd in London has just been released:

He din't sound uneducated. You sound uneducated because people are giving you perfectly good reason why they can't go and you won't stop persisting.
"Would anyone here seriously travel outside of the U.S. to stay with someone they've never met before? Even someone they "get along with" really well on a chat board?
That's asking for trouble, I think. What happens if things don't work out? Where do you go?"
You obviously don't understand some of your fellow posters who have a different mindset.
With strength of character, the application of commonsense, emotional intelligence and good personal skills I see this as being considerably less risky than a one night stand.
Has anyone here never had one of those?
People who run B&B's and people who stay at them run this risk all the time. I know someone who hitch-hiked from Zimbabwe to Scotland without a contingency plan. Many people on this board were only born in the US because their ancestors sailed for thousands of miles on wooden ships with nothing but conviction and rotting meat. Or they came more recently as the immigrants who made "such a terrible trip" in Ragtime.
And I'm expecting the Regent's Park production of Ragtime to be great too.
This is my favorite thread.

Actually, B12B, I've stayed with several people on this board that I met here first and then met in person when I showed up on their doorstep.
^ That scares me, husk.

Actually, the one time I did it, it worked out pretty awesomely. Calvin's one of my favorite people :)
Calvin's wonderful! I've met him, too.
You were lucky it worked out. It could have gone very differently.
Oh, deer lttle Englaner. Yes, I mae be not lerned, but I do know the deffernece tween “there”, “their”and “they’re.” But I am Ameican and we invented English, so I will give you benefit of the whatever they call it over their.
As for my travels, I have not only been on a bus, but have even went in a taxi (or CAB, as you may no it, and no, I did not pay, my mum did. I ain't got no poulds to spare). I have also went from a couple of states…from the state of ignorance, to the state of rational, to the state of reasonable and finally to the state of being intoleralnt of trooly stoopid peepl.
So bend and snap to THAT, Missy.
By the way, americians will NEVER forgive you for CATS.
"You were lucky it worked out."
I'd guess that luck had little to do with the matter and it worked out because Calvin and Husk were good judges of each other's character.
Husk: the inspirational locations for two of the most enduring and famous novels in the English language are within 7 miles of my house. If you're ever in the UK and you'd like to see them PM me. And if you're with your parents and they want to see where Last of the Summer Wine was filmed that's about 15 miles away but, if I were them, I'd prioritise Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice over that.
