That role is such a waste of his talent, and was of Nick's, but good for him!
Agreed, neon, I'm still waiting for Swenson to take on his next big, meaty role. But Earl is a role he'll be fabulous in.

THIS
Hey, the man has to pay his bills. His wife just gave birth. Babies are expensive!
All jokes aside, while the role isn't one that will stretch him artistically it is a good show and I'm sure he will have a blast doing it.
Nice to see him back on the boards!

He will be seen opposite Sara so he'll get more press than with an ordinary replacement role...which never hurts. It's kind of a thankless role but some bring a lot to the role. Ryan Vasquez who was understudy was an amazing Earl. Looking forward to seeing Will's take.

No he won't
Agree that it's a bit of a thankless role but I thought Nick Cordero played it well. I saw William Popp very early in his run, so perhaps he has improved, but he didn't fit the part well to me. He seemed too young and was overacting.
I think Swenson will definitely bring a darker edge to Earl. Looking forward to seeing him in this! They've done a really nice job with replacement casting heading into year two, which should certainly help weather the storm of new shows opening this spring.

Oh God, I need to see this... Sara and Will? It's too much. How can I not go?
Swenson can definitely bring an edge and a sense of danger to his characters. I wonder if his Earl would read as more overtly threatening even if they don't change anything about the part (e.g. escalate to physical violence).
I saw it on Saturday. I thought William Popp was fine, but I was curious as Nick Cordero was. On a side note, Max Kumangai was on as Cal, and I thought he was wonderful.

I hope it didn't seem in my earlier post that I didn't like Nick's performance as Earl. I did very much. I just thought Ryan did the job that resonated most with me. A good around of charm wrapped up in a basically cruel and thoughtless human being.

Dayummm I would see this again for him! He and Sara and going to look so good together.
Indeed what a thankless role, this new cast kind of seems like a perfect movie cast for this piece.
It's crazy to see Will Swenson and think high-rated star now, very well deserved. I remember seeing him as Stacee Jaxx in Rock of Ages Off-Broadway, he was great, you always start somewhere!
I was looking forward to seeing him in concert on the 31st, but I'm so excited for this!!

The actual original Earl. Eager to see his take on the role.

He was never going to be a long term thing for Waitress, he is going to London with Audra for Lady Day which starts next week. Nothing "fast" about it. I love that the original is coming back to it, as well as Drew.
