Posted: 8/8/10 at 9:54pmPlenty of people do, but considering we don't know YOU yet alone your dad, there is no way for us to even to pretend to know if he will care for it.

the story does sound boring if you read a summary of it anywhere on the itnernet. Especially the ugly summary of The Addams Family using the La Cage storyline or something? Which Is weird...because no where in The Addams Family was a man trying to be a women...
But the story WITH The Addams Family makes for a great night out at the theatre. I've noticed from all my friends, who adore the theatre in every form, that the people who were looking for a night out for fun, generally had fun. The people who went out to see what the critics were talking about didn't.
Which was weird. So from my unexpert opinion...If you and your dad are just wanting a fun night at the theatre and not wanting to point faults or lack of "whatevers" in the show, you should enjoy it, i hope you do!

I know this was the show people loved to hate this season, but I've taken two different people to see the show so far, with two VERY different tastes in theatre and they both loved it.
And not for nothing, but every comment I've heard coming out of the theater are raves.
Perfect show- no- but in my opinion a very entertaining night out- especially with Lane and Kevin Chamberlain.

I haven't read the summary you speak of, but I imagine what it refers to isn't the cross-dressing, but rather it's making the obvious comparison of a child introducing their paramours' straight-laced family to their own offbeat family (the Addams in TAF, Georges and Alban in La Cages), and the hilarity that can ensue as a result.
The show isn't high theater, but it's pretty to look at and it's fun. You should be fine.

I think The Addams Family is perfect for a newcomer.
There's not a lot for your Dad (or someone who is just a casual patron) to dislike. It's pretty unoffensive.
Hope you both enjoy!

Posted: 8/9/10 at 12:33pmYeah, ghostlight2 is right. It's the whole weird family mixed with straight-laced family. Saying that, The Addams Family is just You Can't Take It With You with a macabre twist. The Addams Family isn't the best show, but it's Nathan and Bebe, so I would say go. Also, Carolee steals the show, in my opinion.

oh i see now! It's just several comments on this board compare the two shows and I was like "no, there's no cross dressing, no show within a show etc..."
but i see what you mean, the typical "meet the parents" and the results are a funny mishap...thanks! haha

Posted: 8/9/10 at 9:08pmI found that "The Addams Family" was a hysterical show. It had a great set, and some really cool puppetry... I think your dad will enjoy the show! Enjoy! :)

Posted: 8/9/10 at 9:32pmmildred plotka is right, becuase if you do know a lot about theatre, your there to judge the show with the rest of Broadway history...I don't haha i just take each show as it comes and don't compare or spot it's faults, I try and enjoy each moment...If it's possible at least! haha

Posted: 8/9/10 at 9:42pmIt's really enjoyable, atleast while you're there, even for many people who have seen dozens of shows. I suppose the only reason a non-theatre fan wouldn't like it is because it's so non-Addams Family-esque, so if he's a devout Addams Family fan, he'd probably be disappointed.

I'm still unsure whether to go or not so I bought the cd. I'm not very excited, but neither am I put off by it. Seems the composer takes us on a musical tour to Spain, France and Italy. On the way he meets the Kids from Fame and steals a bit from Kander and Ebb (stealing from them is unwise).
If I go it'll be for Lane and Neuwirth
