Saw Wonderful Town Saturday. Donna Murphy was fab! Jennifer Westfeldt on the other hand was awful! Despite this, the show as a whole was very enjoyable.
Do you have the Cast Recording of it? I am ordering it and I just wanted to know if it was any good?
Do me, Donna Murphy was the whole show. When I went in March, they had not made a cast recording.
I bought the cd from DRG records. It is a great cd and they even have a few bonus numbers sung by Comden and Green.
It is playing right now.
The cast recording is WONDERFUL. You'll hear it on the radio station starting on Monday.

What does everyone think of Jennifer Westfeldt? (Eileen)
I thought that she fit the part perfectly, but yes, especially compared to Donna Murphy, she was a bit weak. however...I think she did a very nice job, especially sine (i believe ?) this is her broadway debut.
I enjoyed the show a lot, and enjoy the cast recording even more..
always,
~m~
loved Jennifer Westfeldt. Thought she was darling.
I liked Jennifer Westfeldt very much as Eileen. She's very appealing and has a nice voice. I didn't much care for the show but I thought Donna Murphy and Jennifer Westfeldt were good.
I loved the show everything about it except for the football song.
Wreck annoyed me.
Corine:
Wreck was my favorite character he was hilarious
I think Jennifer Westfeldt as such a crystal clear soprano voice that it fit the dazzling innocence of Eileen. I wouldn't go so far saying she was awful, but she did have her moments where she looked like she wasnt involved with the scene. But they were very few- She got herself quickly back in. I loved her as Eileen and she impressed me onstage. Her and Donna Murphey worked beautifully together. Everyone go see Kissing Jessica Stein- The best movie ever.
Faded glories. Sigh.
Wonderful Town. Truly a musical about two Hussys if there ever was one. I loved Murphy. But the show was a bit to old fashioned for me. But the music is gorgeous. Playing it right now.
I thought Jennifer was bad. Not really really bad, like Sean Combs in Raisin, just bad. It's clear Barry and Fran wanted a "big name" in that part and probably overlooked hundreds of more talented (AND YOUNGER) women.
The night I saw the show, she was pitchy, off-key, and was unusually uncomfortable looking on stage. No stage presence at all.
I agree that her stage presence doesnt amount to the power of Donna Murphey- She looks sometimes weak up against her. I most have saw a good performance because I thought her singing was the best part! I think she is a better film actress and I hope she puts out more independent features. LaPlaya- You said the only reason she got the role is because she's a name- Well she isnt that big. I love her to death, but most people have no clue whom I'm talking about when I mention her movie. Bernadetter Peters is a name. Jennifer is more like a hidden celebrity in a way.

I completely agree with the no stage presence thing! She looked lost or something. It was very distracting.
A lost hussy.
Kissing Jessica Stein is the best movie! Love Idina Menzel in it, but more importantly Jennifer. I find it odd that she has no stage presence, but I wouldn't know so don't attack me, it is just she has said that she started on stage. Maybe it's just the whole Broadway thing, I know I would be intimidated!
In Wonderful Town, Jennifer Westfeldt was HORRIBLY MISCAST. Fran and Barry could have had 1000 better singers and actresses but they chose her because they thought:
(1) she brought some box office (wrong)
(2) she made Donna look not so old (right)
The fact she is nominated for a Tony is a joke.
But God bless her little heart.
She is adorable though, you have to admit that... I know, that doesn't make a bad actor good or whatever. Haven't seen it, but hope to in July! I hope it is still there!
There definitely are much much much better women for this role, and everyone knows it. Her singing and acting is extremely mediocre....she looks the part, and that's about it. She was fine, but they are better girls for the role out there.
I love you, Billy Lawlor. Let's move to Massachusetts.
I thoroughly enjoyed Wonderful Town (although the first thing I said when I walked into the theater was "Well, they obviously opted to keep the Encores! style set up") and though everyone, except Jennifer, was excellent. She fit the part okay but her voice kills me, I can't stand it and usually end up skipping her on the CD if I can. But I really enjoyed the show, it was fun. I also did love Wreck, I thought he was hysterical.
